Hi All,

My 1.6tdi Fabia estate has some electrical gremlins which i think I've narrowed down to a faulty BCM. The electronics on the drivers and passenger side doors aren't working so I've got no electric windows, wing mirrors etc. I've got the added problem that my windscreen wipers occasionally cut out and stop working indefinitely (eventually they magically come back to life). All the fuses are ok. I've inspected the wiring looms next to the door pillar and they're also fine so I'm led to believe it's a BCM issue.

I don't think this is a job i can do myself but I want to avoid going to the dealership and having to pay £600 for a part that's £50 off eBay. Can anyone recommend an auto-electrician in the Leeds/Sheffield area who would be able to help with this?

Thanks in advance,

Arthur

Have you checked the wireharness between the door and chassi? They are prone to brake..and cause a lot of strange problems

I have done and it's in good condition. I was hoping that was going to be the problem so was gutted when it turned out to be fine

Have you checked fuse 11 for the mirror adjustment?

Does mirror heating work or not? Switch on with engine running and then feel each mirror after 30 seconds or so, with a finger.

Does the passenger window work from its own switch?

If you'd like me to look at circuits, I'd need to know whether the car was built before or after May 2013; reg or VIN would get me to that information.

Hi Pete,

Fuse 11 is ok.

The passenger window doesn't work from its own switch.

I'll have to double check the mirror heating when i get back to the car.

Reg is DA13WUD

If you do eventually need a new BCM, I have a brand new one available which is the latest version, it’s listed on EBay now, but if you are interested let me know, will be far cheaper than a dealer price.

Ps anyone who does this needs VCDS or similar to copy your current BCM settings to the new one, if your not using a dealer which I fully understand, ideally a VAG specialist or even a competent user on here with VCDS.

Yeah that's something I'd be interested in. How can i find a competent user on here?

The BCM controls the windscreen wiper motor, the HEATED wing mirror function.

The BCM does not control the window motors, wing mirror motors.

Do your windows work if you power them directly from e.g. a wire from the battery. Do you have power on the wires that go to the window switch and power going out of the switch?

@26DIPP the BCM is somewhat involved with electric windows on a 2013 car, I think. I believe it has LIN bus connectivity with them, and may even be the LIN master controller, not sure.

Pre-March 2010 mk2s didn't have that LIN connection, only between the two or four window motors themselves.

You are right Pete.

I looked at the pre FL BCM. The FL BCM does have a LIN wire to the door controllers.

The window regulators are both fused. 51 for driver, 52 for passenger controller.
