Buying first VRS help

Featured Replies

Hello. Looking to pick up my first VRS MK4 TSI DSG tonight.
Viewed the car, looked all good.
It had mechatronics replaced by Skoda (warranty job) a few thousand miles ago. Owner said it wouldn't select odd or even gears (dont remember which ones exactly he said).

Upon checking the car it had following error codes:

U14E400 (Transmission electronics control module)

U14000 (I presume because car has been standing)

P032600 (knock sensor)

Googled, but couldn't get a lot info how bad the codes are.
Car is on 42k miles
Any input is appreciated

Sounds like one to walk away from.

Or is it very cheap and you have mates rates with a VW Specialist?

When was it first registered.?

The Warranty replaced MCU is just covered until the Manufacturers Warranty on the car exprires,

so when is that. car 3 years old?

Can you purchase an Extended Warranty that will include cover for the DSG.

*If one was purchased and needing claimed on could they then say 'Known Issue'.

there are known issues, VW Group know they have built DQ381,swith fundamental design, manufacturing, material faults. & given them a 80,000 miles service interval. Tw-ats.*

Not sure if better that it has failed already, rather than buying one that has not failed @ 40,000 miles. & costs you lots.

Personally i would not be spending out on anything with a DQ381 without having at least 2 years warranty. But with a Skoda Approved Used car if buying one of those you really need to be certain the DSG is covered if that has 2 years warranty on it.

?

Has it had the service and spark plugs replaced?

If it has a VAQ diff was it serviced?

Its 2021, private. Quite cheap (5k under anything from trade). As far as I understand it had some sort of extended warranty.
How to check for VAQ diff?

I will be doing a full service as soon as I will get the car anyway (local friendly garage).

I thought long about it, and I'm leaning towards the fact that it has been done already, rather than expect dealer to fix it if it goes (its always a battle with them).

Im curious if it has been done, does it carry any warranty (for not original owner?) ?

interesting, I have a brand new 2.0 TDI DSG arriving in 6 weeks (I assume with the DQ381) do you know if these boxes still have the same flaws or have they had a big update?

It is said by some that it was earlier ones, and things are overblown.

We will not know if really anything since 2022 is ok for 5 years until 2027.

Same with 2025 vehicles with a DQ381 out of warranty, 2028 on is when we find out.

Best get an extended 4 or 5 year warranty before the car is first registered if the car is to be kept..

Simply clever would be VW / Skoda putting an 8 year / 100,000 mile warranty on a DSG with a 80,000 mile service regime.

@Dtre If there is any kind of warranty that might depend if a claim as to being serviced to Manufacturers Guidelines, Recommendations, Advice or what ever, they never are clear what these things are.

VAQ diff was @ 3 years / 30,000 miles, then UK Main Dealers started saying @ 2 years / 20,000 miles.

Then some said Optional, or said nowt. They have issues with arse and elbow really.

Just phoned Skoda for service record, system wasnt working correctly but he sent me screenshots. Said it has a very good history.

It is not an AWD is it, so not Haldex servce but the VAQ. (Front diff)

If a Skoda / VW Approved Warranty is available from the service record then good. I would buy one.

Faults if any need deal with, why is the seller not having the car 'Fault Code free'. ? Under warranty?
