Replacing my head unit

Featured Replies

Hi, im quite new too this but I had my car at a skoda dealership to fix my mib not having any sound except for the parking sensors. Long story short they tried to update the firmware but failed. The conclusion was that I need a new head unit, but they werent able to get me a new one.

My current head unit is a harman mib 5E0 035 020 A and I found a used 5E0 035 020 C. Do anyone know if I can buy this one and just plug & play?

@pab567 might be able to advise.

Probably your unit has a typical failure - dry joints in power amplifier section. It can be easily repaired by resoldering power amplifier chips.

You can replace 5E0035020A with 5E0035020C but it's not plug&play - new unit must have component protection removed by Skoda dealer, must have FEC/SWaP codes assigned to your car reinstalled and finally must be parametrized (coding and adaptiaions) to match your car equipment options.

@pab567 Will resoldering also fix my unit not accepting the sd card with firmware from skoda dealership or my own sd card? Both keep saying "unable to read the release information file. error when reading/opening the file. metainfo2.txt"

Nope, resoldering solves ONLY sound issues.

For firmware upgrade:

1. format SD (best max 32GB) under FAT32

2. unpack to root (metainfo2.txt and all the folders must be placed directly on SD, not in any folder)

3. insert SD card into the slot

4. enter Service Menu (long press MENU button)

@amibe96

What unit does it have? Send the part number.

I changed my head unit to another one with the same part number amd managed to install the newest firmware on it. The thing is that now the volume button doesn't work. Its stuck on mute and wont move when I try to turn it up through the button or the screen. Do you know anything about that @pab567 ?

Has the component protection been removed? Have you adjusted coding and adaptations to the ones from you old unit?
