2.0 tai engine bay very hot

Featured Replies

Hi all. We recently bought a 20 plate 2.0 tsi 4x4. The car seems to run fine and the needle stays stable in the middle of the dial. However, the engine seems to get very hot. Like if you put your hand on the engine cover it's uncomfortable hot. Is this normal for these engines?

What is the ambient temperature. What colour is the bonnet as in is it a dark car not white. Is there insulation on the bonnet. And is the sun splitting the pavements? PS, is the indicated oil temp just from 90 degrees C to 120 or so. ?

It's been 25c here today and the car is silver. It does have some sort of insulation on the underside of the bonnet yes.

Engines get hot, stop overthinking it.

If the temperature gauge is in the middle and stays there, alls good.

Oil temp can also get up around 110c if towing or pressing on. this is also fine.

The many computers on your car will soon tell you if there is an issue.

Good advice. I'm sure it's fine. Just getting used to it I guess.

I picked up my Karoq in August, two years ago and, showing it off to a friend, opened the bonnet to show him the engine. Blast of hot air, which concerned me. He, being a (non VAG) tech/mech, said nothing wrong with it, as his franchise brands were all like it! Didn’t think my Octavia got as hot, but rarely open the bonnet of any car, these days, when hot. Might check it again, tomorrow, out of interest.
