Almost new Superb 1.5 TSI

Featured Replies

Hello,

Currently have a 2018 Passat 1.4 TSI business SE with 50k on the clock.

It’s got the dq200 box on it, mechatronic unit has just started to leak but it’s been squealing when changing in to the odd gears for a few years (no loss of drive then).

I’ve been looking at Octavia VRS but found a Superb with 10 miles on the clock, 1.5 TSI winter pack. Looks very nice BUT it’s also got the dq200 box……..

Has VW made any updates to the dq200 in the last 8 years or so?

I’m also thinking that I could view this as just offsetting the cost of a rebuilt box for the Passat and get a ‘new’ car with a shed load more features on it (the Passat doesn’t even have climate !!)

Yes there have been a number of minor tweaks, or improvements to the gearbox in 8 years. From memory I think they added another production site too as volume of auto gearboxes went up.

Very sparse number threads on problems with this gearbox with petrol engines in recent years, across all the models. So you would be incredibly unlucky to get problems again.

No meaningful updates in practice.

If you want to own the car for a longer period of time then DQ381 is recommended.

Remember to do oil service even when manufacturer says it is not necessary in their service records.

Thanks guys.

I’m not overly impressed with the gear change program on the Passat and I guess it would be the same as the Superb.

In Drive it tries to change up way too early and doesn’t respond when it really needs to change down (and then changes down 3 gears …)

In Sport it screams along in 3rd at 70mph until it finally changes up half a mile down the road….

Think I’ll leave it.

Shame though as the rest of the car looks mint
