Fault in car that causes a kind of air pressure issue in the ears like a plane taking off or landing?

Featured Replies

Our sub 30 day car has a vibration / banging noise from 35-40mph that also has a feel like taking off in a plane in the ears of passengers. This sounds strange but it is what was experienced by thee people in the car (4 people in the car).

So I have googled the faults minus the ear pressure thing and the results said things ike a steering angle sensor fault, loose fuel line on the passengers side and drivetrain issues. I have also found a comment on a forum where the person said they had an issue like ours with a pressure issue too, where the seal on an air filter compartment waass pinched allowing air into the car.

Out of all these I can only see the air filter seal issue could pootentially be the cause.

So does anyone have a clue what it is likely to be?

One point is that this issue is so intermittent and unpredictable. We cannot isolate the situations it happens because it happens when it does but not very often. no consistency behind it. Difficult to fix since it is unlikely to have a code that can be read and it is pot luck whether the mechanic will be driving it when it happens.

Welcome.

Have you listened along with the passengers with the windows open?

Have you checked or adjusted the tyre pressures?. (& reset the TPMS)

So what engine and gearbox has your car?

What age and miles has it done? EDIT. i see a 2016, but had to look at the profile.

Have you checked where the Pollen Filter is,

then looked to see there is one, and it is clean?

?

Are there flaps at the rear of the boot that allow pressure to release when the doors are closed?

Maybe sealed up by someone because they had water in the boot.

That said, it's strange to have that at 35/40mph - motorway speeds I could understand. Anyway, first port of call is to check all of the cabin seals - doors, windows, boot, cabin filter, drains, etc.

Anything else is totally irrelevant to that problem.

It’s not the booming noise that occurs when driving with a rear window open, is it?

That's been the answer previously IIRC
