My 2017 Skoda Superb 2.0 TDI (150bhp) has developed a strange problem...

When the oil temperature reaches 80–90°C, the car starts to jump, almost as if the clutch is slipping. This usually lasts for about 10–15 seconds.

Once it gets past the jumping, the car then drives faultlessly for the rest of the journey. I drove 2.5 hours to West Wales the other day, and it didn’t skip a beat once the initial jumping was over and done with.

It almost feels as if the opening of a thermostat is somehow causing the DSG to open and close the clutch?

Usually, the fault occurs without storing any error codes. However, the last time it happened, I had three other people in the car, and it jumped quite badly—this time storing a number of fault codes:

• P029900 – Turbocharger underboost

• P032200 – Engine speed sensor circuit – no signal

• P072600 – Engine speed sensor circuit – range/performance

• C114602 – Tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) – signal malfunction

• U112300 – Databus error: value received

• U112200 – Databus: implausible signal

Has anyone experienced anything like this before?

These error codes are in very different modules. Could be an electrical fault and/or car battery dying. Are you still using the factory fitted battery?

So, I’ve now solved the issue (with heavy use of google and friends) it was the crankshaft position sensor.

It turns out that the engine uses the camshaft position sensor to run until operating temperature, and then switches to the crankshaft sensor. When this happened, the engine would detect the fault and then switch back to the camshaft sensor. After replacing the crankshaft position sensor (Bosch), I’m happy to report that the engine runs fine.
