Towbar for 20-plate Karoq

Featured Replies

We're looking to get a detachable towbar fitted to our Karoq.
We've almost settled on a 'TowTrust' model but wanted to know if it would need the bodywork/bumber cutting. The technician said - "see if you've already got a gap/panel/hole under the back, in which case you wouldn't need it cutting" but I'm not really sure where I should be looking! Any ideas or guidance, please? Also, should I be so precious about him cutting a chunk of panel out, anyway? Thanks! Stom

Typically it’s a slot between 12 & 15 inches wide and 4 to 6 inches deep. It’s not visuals at all o n mine. Look roughly in the middle of the bottom surface of the bumper. They are only cutting out some plastic.

Make sure they do the electrics correctly, with coding so that parking sensors, ABS and ESC function correctly when the towbar is in use.

I've got a detachable TowTrust on my 73 plate Sport line.

You can't see anything once removed.

Wouldn't even know it was there

Thanks Chester - the picture of the underside is really useful as it shows just what the size/position of the cut-out needs to be ...

I'm presuming (from earlier comments) that this is cut out from a plastic trim - is that right?

Yep, it's the plastic trim that's cut

On my 2022 Karoq, the cut out was marked on the inside of the rear bumper. It was a rectangle of slightly raised plastic.
