Genuine TDI query

Featured Replies

A friend has just bought a toledo 110 TDi, 2002, 60k miles. The car is in good nick, but has no history. i had a test drive soon after he got it, cause he thought the turbo was playing up.

The thing is, it doesn't drive like my 110 TDi Octy, or my old 90 TDi Golf:confused: . It seems to pull much more gradually from about 1300/1400 rpm, with no obvious punch from the turbo at 1900 rpm. It does pick up smoothly and overall performance seems comparible with my standard 110 tdi, but it just doesn't add up.

Why would a 110 Toledo be tuned any different than a 110 Octy of any other TDI i have driven. Is this a case of a remapped engine? but it isn't any quicker overall, or is the turbo not functioning as it should??

I am going to recomend that he takes it to someone with a VAG com, but has anyone any opinions before this.

P.s. it doesn't seem like the usual flat spot problem associated with TDIs.

Check the usual suspects like MAF, N75 valve or sticking variable vanes on the turbo.

The other way to do it, is stick it on a RR & see what power it's producing. Would cost around £20 for a power run.

P.S. If there's no history with it, get the timing belt checked as it will need one @ 60K.

I think the dealer has changed the belt and given it a full service before he bought it.

My mate doesn't know too much about cars and complains about it not running right, but doesn't want to spend the money to get it sorted (miserable sort)

I wouldn't mind having his car for a week or 10 days to have a play around with, but then he knows how i drive:O
