Selling back to dealer?

Featured Replies

There's a chance I'll be looking to sell my car in the new year.

It'll be pristine, 2 yrs old, 2yrs warranty left and only 10k miles.

I don't want to sell privately, trade it, or go to WBAC or the like.

Question is, do dealers buy cars for selling on as approved-used? or does it have to be a part ex?

Most dealers will probably entertain the idea, although they get enough returns through leasing. Something like your 2024 vRS would probably go down a treat, as they’re always looking for cars like that - that’s the same condition I got mine.

I’d be tempted to look toward Meadens in Brockenhurst/Bournemouth though - I wasn’t very impressed with Richmond.

It may also be worth looking at some better regarded performance used dealers - they tend to be nice to deal with. Evolve come to mind.

I sold my Polo GTI via Bigwantsyourcar a month or so ago.

They paid me £1,000 more than what a VW dealer offered me and £1,900 more than WBAC offered (before they start trying to knock you down).

Very easy process, no negotiation on price and the money was in the bank instantly.

Couldn't really have wished for it to be more painless really.

All of this being said, maybe selling it privately could be a solution?

I understand time wasters, etc, but you’re not selling a 2008 Clio. I can’t imagine there’s that many idiots looking to buy a 2024 vRS.

There is the inbetween option.

You can sell with Motorway, it is you selling privately but to dealers only.
Sold my Dad's car through that and it went well. Got about £2000 more than a local dealer was offering to buy it.
Will help that your car is main dealer ready. I sold my Dad's to a Honda main dealer.

Dealers will buy anything that they think they can make a profit on.

Bear in Mind Motorway will lure you in with a high ball estimate then knock it down with every bump and scratch but not to the silly extent that WBAC do. Plus it is still an auction and you could get more. I think they knocked £500 off the estimate for me (as said still much more than local Honda dealers), and it sold for that estimate. Dealer sent a guy up to collect the car no argument, money in my Dad's account within the hour.

I have heard of sharp practice but you can say no and apparently motorway will kick them out the system if they abuse it.

We'll be selling the countryman when the ID3 arrives and I will use Motorway again.

I've sold several vehicles that were on PCPs back to the dealers, often the dealer that sold me the vehicle in the first place. You can also haggle with a dealer too, I got an extra grand on my old M4, with a bit of negotiation, when I sold it back to the dealer, I also didn't buy another car from them, it was just a simple sale.

It helps if you have a desirable car, it isn't too old and the condition is good. Having said that, I have a PHEV that comes to an end in 9 months and I don't think I stand a chance in Hell that a dealer will pay more than the balloon payment. The car will be sent straight back to Peugeot, as nobody wants them :(
