Sorry a very dull post, I just noticed this on my car which I just bought, see photo, there's a bit of metal sticking up, looks potentially like part of a mechanism or spring. Don't want to pull it out or cut it off in case it needs to be pushed back into place - any thoughts?!

The plastic flap is missing part of it. That is designed to go on both sides of the catch to stop stuff dropping down inside. That part is a spring to fold it back up
