MK4 Fabia, good choice ?

Featured Replies

Had ours for nearly a year now and very pleased with it. Turn the stop/start off and Lane Assist but that's no biggie. Had to look things up now and again in the online manual including the infotainment system but that's generally the case with all cars nowadays and no big deal.

Only minor niggle is when I wash the car is the wheels. They are the ones designed for the Aero trims (but fortunately came without them) and have a channel where the trim fits. This is difficult to clean out of brake dust and holds water - but I'm nitpicking here.

Thanks, yeah im enjoying mine, not sure what to do about the aero covers, tempted to take them off 🤔

To be honest they don't look as bad with black wheels but it was a no brainer for us. I'd already checked that ours wouldn't be supplied with them but if it had I'd already told the salesman to make sure they were removed before we collected the car!

Adding plastic trims to alloy wheels just isn't right!

Agree, theres supposed to be some kind of tool to remove them but I cant find it in the car anywhere 🤷🏻‍♂️

There's a thread on here all about Aero trims and their removal.

These earlier forum threads referred to the Fabia's aero wheel covers and their removal

For removing the aero covers the Fabia Owner's Manual recommends use of the metal 'tool' shown here.

This was originally intended for removing the cosmetic plastic caps covering the heads of VAG Group cars' wheel bolts (though there's a plastic 'tweezers' tool that does a better job.)

The metal tool is small and insignificant. If a spare-wheel has been specified, the tool should be in the foam-plastic insert that holds wheel-changing equipment (jack, wheel-wrench, etc.)

If the car just has a puncture-repair kit (12V inflator, canister of sealant) I'd expect the little tool to be in there (maybe!)

The VAG reference for the metal tool is 6X0012243 and a GOOGLE-search on that reference will identify plenty of suppliers (and plenty of different asking-prices!)

One BRISKODA forum-member purchased two of the metal tools to make the initial 'pull' easier. As shown in one of the earlier forum discussions about the aero covers, I DIYed my own more efficient 'pullers' out of fencing wire.

See also the warning about 'brittleness' here

How you enjoying the car? Wife has had this now for just over a month (1.0tsi 95 Design 5sp)....came from an MG3 Nav Exc. First Skoda she has owned and absolutely loves the car. We, like others possibly, watched loads of reviews and in all honesty the car has met all our expectations positively. Whilst it doesn't have the 6th gear that the 116 version has, we really don't do lots of extended M/way driving and in all honesty on the 200 mile journey back from picking the car up......we really didn't feel the need to look for a 6th gear.....its just so quiet and economical in any case. Fuel economy is high 50's,, gears are slick & positive when changing, ride comfort faultless and the car just feels like total VW Group "quality" similar to my Touran but without the price-tag! I do detail my cars regularly and whilst the plastic aero trims are not to everyone's taste, it does cut down on cleaning time lol.

I nearly bought that colour absolutely loved it but the wife didn't lol

Yeah its a lovely car so far only had it two weeks or so. Mines the automatic so I just sit back and enjoy the effortless driving experience. I find it hard to get a comfy driving position thats my only gripe constantly playing with the sseat settings but that'll be more me than the car. Ive got the dreaded dashboard rattle when the engine is cold thats been previously mentioned but have got used to it now. Also as mentioned the tyres are very noisy at speeds up to 30mph so they will get replaced by quieter tyres when needed. Like yourself I love to detail cars I am a Funeral Operative so im cleaning hearses and limos to a very high standard everyday so my car gets detailed at least two times a week at the work garage 😁

Still not sure what to do about the wheel covers, they do look kinda cool but I do worry about the **** collecting behind them

All in all im impressed with the Fabia and hope it gives me many years of trouble free motoring

Glad you enjoying the car. Agree on the ECO tyres......but we'll live with it for the mo and change for better down the line. My wife was the opposite.....only wanted the Phoenix Orange and unless we went for the Monte Carlo trim, they didn't have many available in UK without making a factory order, whereas this was already on a ship on its way from the factory.........and it also had a spare wheel included so there's a bonus lol. Loads of compliments on the colour though and it does stand-out from the row of greys, blue and blacks on the street as a bit of "sunshine". Having a garage to do your car in a real bonus though.......people laugh when I complain about it being sunny outside when I'm itching to get the wax out. Enjoy bud😁

Same colour as my TT! Though it's called Samoa Orange. Not many cars can carry it off (it's used on some VWG SUVs but few around fortunately!) but the Fabia Design/Colour Edition does with its black roof and trim which breaks it up and provides a nice contrast.
