Extra deep rear discs ?? Karoq 1.5 TSI

Featured Replies

Just gone to replace the discs and pads on my Karoq with Pagid ones that I ordered from Halfords but realised that the central hub part of the discs isnt deep enough ?

Ordered as per the halfords search and they sent these - 272mm diameter - Pagid Brake Discs 104442078

They are the correct diameter but are no way near deep enough ? Difference of about 8/9mm

Anyone know what part number is should be ?

Bit annoying as given they have been opened and ive tried to fit them i cant look to take them back :(

Looks like on the Halfords website they are quoted as 48mm discs but on other websites 58mm discs are quoted for the rears ...

The Karoq parts catalogue lists two versions of the 272x10mm rear brake discs: 5Q0615601B and 5Q0615601D.

5Q0615601B is the 58.3mm version, whereas 5Q0615601D is the 48.2mm version.

According to TRW on autodoc, the rigid rear axle Karoq uses the 58.3mm version, whereas the multi-link rear axle Karoq uses the 48.2mm version.

To be honest, it's best to avoid Halfords like the plague, they jave always been a sad joke (the equivalent of Curries for cars).

There's so many reputable, knowledgeable suppliers out there, who would most likely provide equivalent, or superior items at lower cost.

Halfords are only good for masking tape, wipers and cleaning cloths.

Not that you should be, but I wouldn’t let them change a wiper on my car.

The majority of them (not all!) are poorly trained and don’t care - there are far better alternatives for both labour and parts. You want to get something from TRW/ATE on AutoDoc, ECP or the like.

Yeh just frustrating that left with essentially useless discs - will look to get some 58mm ones from the local merchants.

Shouldn't have relied on the put your vehicle in and here are your parts etc...

Are you able to return them if you apply some brake cleaner and love? If not, I’d put them on eBay to try and recoup some cost.

I learned not to trust the part finders when I had my Leon. No place could tell me for sure if I had 312mm or 288mm front discs, and it was the same story for the rears. I tend to phone up the dealer parts lot for the part number, and then act on that once I’ve checked on forums.

Bought them a few months back and only got round to 'fitting' them today and its a 28day return policy - ill see if anyone on FB marketplace or ebay is interested and if not ill turn them into functional sculptures or something D

I’ve got an old 380mm Porsche rear disc I use for metal work. Be careful with FB - you don’t want someone finding the same issue you had with them, and returning them through your front window.

I highly recommend EBC brakes. Recently got rear ones and pads for my Superb.

If you've got a Superb MK3 with 300x12mm rear brake discs, then EBC have sold you the wrong rear brake pads, ie. Karoq rear brake pads and not Superb MK3 rear brake pads.

Karoq and Superb MK3 rear brake pads are almost identical, but the friction material on the Karoq rear brake pads doesn't go all the way down to the bottom of the metal backing plate...as shown in the below two diagrams.

EBC can't correct their mistake, because the smaller area of friction material on the Karoq rear brake pads wears a narrower groove on the rear brake discs...and if EBC started selling the correct rear brake pads customers who used part worn rear brake discs that had used the Karoq rear brake pads would notice a problem.

If you want the correct EBC rear brake pads for your Superb MK3 300x12mm rear brake discs, purchase the rear brake pads that EBC sell for the Superb MK3 310x22mm rear brake discs and NOT the rear brake pads that EBC sell for the Superb MK3 300x12mm rear brake discs...if you don't want to be supplied with Karoq rear brake pads.

Interesting, thanks Carlston. I withdraw my recommendation !

Luckily it will wear them out fast enough to soon need some more….

Edit: I did get a “kit” which was supply of the discs and pads, considering I was buying new discs you would think they could have put the correct sized pads in with them.

Pretty sure it was this one https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/ebc-brake-pad-disc-kit-pdkr1036

DPX2153 in that kit are Karoq rear brake pads.

DPX2173 would have been the correct rear brake pads.

Just keep using Karoq rear brake pads until those rear discs are replaced.

I would consider EBC's entry level Ultimax brake pads (for normal road use) if they were price competitive with ATE ceramic (low-dust) brake pads...and sometimes they are.

Yep, used many times over the decades for different makes!

You'll probably get nowhere but if you put the right details in and they supplied the wrong parts then they're not as described and that should trump their returns policy.

Out of interest, how are you dealing with the electric handbrake?

They supplied what was marked as the part on their website but i was unaware there were two versions so doubt i'd get anywhere.

I took off the parking brake via the normal switch and then ran the 'start lining change mode' in VCDS to roll the EPB back while having a battery charger attached.
