Just saying 'Hello!' again really

Featured Replies

I'm still the original owner of my 2010 110 CR Yeti in Tangerine metallic (pealing top coat) and it's only done 82k miles. Elegance trim and my wife and I really need the memory seats as we're 2ft different in height!

It's had a few issues over the years but to be honest, not as many as it could have. A couple of EGR valve replacements, a couple of throttle valve cleans and recently, a new condenser. I'd put up with the AC failing after a few months for about 3 years so finally opened the household wallet and had a new one installed.

Current issues (apart from the pealing top coat on the bonnet and roof) are:

  1. Instrument cluster LEDs almost gone. I can still read everything in the dark but it's annoying. I might take out the panel and send it to Cartronix to fix while I'm on holiday at some point. I did buy the LEDs and I can solder but it's pretty fiddly so I'm reluctant to do it myself and make things worse.

  2. The alarm failed several years ago. For a long time I simply disconnected the fuse for the siren but a few months ago, I bought a custom battery for about £30. Like I said, I can solder so I thought 'no problem', but one of the connector just refused to desolder. I might have damaged the track or one of the components so, despite it looking like it should work, it doesn't. It chirped once and then nothing since. never mind...the immobiliser locking works so I'll live with that.

  3. The alloys are quite badly corroded now and I've been told they are responsible for the very slow pressure leak I have. I've had a few quote to have them powder coated and might do this next because I'm fed up with pumping up one of the them every two weeks.

  4. I've recently bought an add-on CarPlay unit so I don't feel quite as desperate to get a new car with modern gadgets, but it hasn't cured the desire completely.

Other than that, I've been pretty lucky. My wife absolutely loves driving the car and to be honest, so do I.

We've shifter sideboards, dressers, all sorts and it's been brilliant. I think even if we buy a new car I'd ,like to hold on to this one. Maybe get the wheels and instrument cluster done this year and give the inside a good clean (beige interior).

So, just an update, as it's been a long time since I posted and to let people know how much I wish Skoda had continued the Yeti. I'd have bought a new one a few years ago if they had! Been a member since I bought the car almost 15 years ago.

I agree with you Dave, another Yeti would have been our choice of a new car.

If only,..... a nice 1.5 petrol hybrid with a self charging battery that could take you 10-20 miles would have been great.

Sadly, our 8 year old Yeti sold literally overnight & replaced with a Toyota Yaris Cross GR sport 130

Nice car, but it's not a Yeti.

I kept my Marmite Yeti toy. He's not going anywhere.

Mine's a 2013 1.2l Elegance bought from new (with the 16" wheel "option" - if you argued hard enough) and it's nice to know there are still a few of us holding onto our now rather old cars - and still pleased with them. Like you I've not had to spend a lot of money keeping it together and, because I'm nerdy like that I can say at 90,000 miles with an initial cost of £21,350 and total expenditure since purchase of £27,820 (fuel, servicing, tax, insurance, MOT, repairs etc) that's £49,170 or 54.5p per mile. (Factor in it's present value of about £5,000 and it comes out at 50p/mile). I'd say that's pretty good value motoring.

It's the longest I've ever held onto a car and the only reason I bought one was because I stumbled on this web-site at the end of 2012 where I read a lot of posts from people who seemed to really knew what they were talking about and this pricked my interest. But budget considerations, and a long history of estate cars meant I went to the local dealer with the intention of buying one of the last of the Ocatavia Mk II, which were selling at 15k with the Mk III on its way. But the Octavia demonstrator was already out, the Yeti was on the forecourt so with time to kill..... I really liked the Yeti but it was £5 over budget so I went out in the Octavia and after the shortest test drive area blew the budget. And never regretted it. Now, if I could just pick up that T 1 BET plate reaaaally cheap....

@Paul52 I was logging my costs for quite a few years but after a couple of missed fill-ups started to lose track and, what with regularly returning 50+ mpg I did t bother any more. I’ll get a gut feeling when it’s costing too much but I’m also bearing in mind the carbon footprint to keep it going is so much lower than buying a new electric car and I’m out beyond Mr Khan’s cash cow so makes sense to hang on for the time being at least. Maybe small electric for the short journeys and keep the Yeti for the trips to the coast and the midlands.

Our local (small) Vauxhall dealer has just taken in a late model Yeti and has it on their forecourt for £11995. I was trying to work out what someone would have traded in for ? Probably a Mokka electric?

Bet they will regret it !
