I'll go for new Octy, please advice

Featured Replies

Hello to everyone in Briskoda Forum.

This is my first post as I still don't own Skoda. At the moment I own Toyota Avensis Saloon 1.8 VVTi. Got it new at 2005.

Not hapy with the car as it has many problems.

In the past, since 1985, I owned seven VW Golf's, one Fiat (never again), and two company's Renault Megane's (have one now, 2 months old).

It was that Renault Megane 1,5 Diesel that made me think I can go for diesel. Of all of my previous cars just one Golf was diesel, built at 1984 and it was lazy and noisy car.

Now I see diesel engines are quite, smooth, powerfull...

My father owns Fabia 1.2 and one friend of mine Octavia I with 220.000 miles on the clock. He said just minor problems and regular servicing at the dealer and he's still hapy with it.

So, the charm of Octy II on the road called my attention. Looked well at the prices, went to the showroom to see and sit in few of them. Great...

Haven't had test-drive yet.

Decision taken - Octy II 2.0 TDi Elegance.

I'm gonna get it early next year. My Avensis will be 2 years old but I just don't want to keep it.

People tell me I'll be going to the much smaller car but I can't feel that way as I kept on sitting in Octy and it was fine for me. Boot even bigger then in Avensis one that is 520 L.

Ok, few things missing in Octy, like electrical closing of side mirrors, iluminated mirrors in sun visors (sun shades) etc, etc., but nothing serious for me.

But yet, I have few questions:

1) What HU I'll get, Audience or Stream?

2) 6 CD Changer is option in Elegance here in Portugal. If I ask for one does it have to come with Stream and is there CD Text from HU CD Player and from CD Changer?

3) Does CD Changer have the megazine load or you have to load CD's one by one?

4) Is it true that FM reception is very poor?

5) How good all audio is in Octy?

6) Is spare wheel normal size or just that little emergency one?

7) Do they sell safety wheel screws (anti theft)?

8) Which electrical windows are AUTO? My previous Golf had auto windows on the front and non-auto on the back. Also AUTO was working only from driver's door. The switch in passenger door worked only non-auto. My company Megane, poor in equipment has all four windows auto and each door window's switch auto as well.

9) Does Elegance come with audio controls on the steering wheel?

10) How long do you have to wait for ordered car (approx)?

Sorry for so many questions. I'm very experienced in car maintanance as I was mechanic many years ago. Also, I'm very active member of Toyota Avensis forum at the moment and I have managed to help many people with things I've discovered on the car and simple upgrades I've maid.

Hope to share my experience with all of members of Briskoda early next year as I get my OCTY.

Thanks to all and best luck with your lovely Octavia's.

Hi, and welcome to Briskoda

1) Stream

2) Yes, you get text from both

3) you load CD's one by one

4) FM reception is ok, not nearly as good as digital

5) I think the audio is excellent, better than my previous peugeot 607.

6) The spare is a normal alloy.

7) The car comes standard with locking wheel nuts. Its a good idea to grease them with copper grease, because they can go tight.

8) All four windows are automatic.

9) The elegance does not come with audio controls on the steering wheel (I don't miss it)

10) No idea!

Hope this helps.

 I agree with the above except:

2) No text from CD's in HU or changer in mine. You get it on the Audience though

7) Locking wheel nuts are standard! have to check on that then. Was sure they weren't.

8) Depends on region. Rear electric windows may not be automatic

9) Audio controls on steering wheel is a cheap option. I only use volume and mute really but they light up nicely at night.lol

10) UK delivery is around 12 weeks I think but it depends again on region and options.

I believe the bluetooth handsfree option is available in Portugal. I would highly recommend you specify it along with the maxidot trip computer and steering wheel audio controls. You can navigate your phones contact list, make/answer calls using the steering wheel controls and view callers/phonebook on the maxidot screen. It's not an option over here in the UK :( .

2) Perhaps I misunderstood the question.

7) Thought they did? I may be wrong.

9) How cheap?

9) How cheap?

Are you people happy with car behavior (handling) in curvy roads. Does the back of the car want to run away - slide in tight curves?

Please keep your posts comming. Your advices will be decisive when I order the car.

Thanks to all

I think the handling's excellent. The car feels well planted and I have no problem cornering.

Hi there, I bought the 2.0 TDI elegance last week, bloody great car, did some touring in Spain this weekend with a 6 foot tall mate and his bird and we wizzed around, I have had rovers, puegots golfs and I can say that this is the best of all of them, the estate handles well and is easily quick enough, I thought about loading up with options but did not in the end, the only thing I miss is the multi function wheel, I have to reach all the way over to the stereo!

Also my dogs love it ! they have not been sick yet for the first time ever but the sport mode seems to plaster them on the back windscreen like one of those garfield sticky on things. This forum has been excellent for me.

Thought the Windows were only AUto from the Drivers side, aren't they just normal from the rear and passenger side switches?

LOcking wheel nuts as standard on mine.

Car handles well even without sports suspension. It's very predictable handling gives good confidence. I specified ESP and curtain airbags though just to be on the safe side. With the 2.0 TDI even with ESP or the standard ASR, you do get a little wheelspin in first and sometimes 2nd gear in the wet or snow but I guess thats not a problem for you.

window definitely 1 press on passenger side in my mk2 as the wife remarked on it yesterday...and all 4 are auto from the drivers control pad

I have not actually sat in the back of mine but I will check at lunch time to see if all 4 are auto

I've got confused a little bit now,

how many air-bags Elegance has? Curtain ones are not standard, just an option?

And what about ESP, only as an option as well?

Thanks

In the Uk it's as follows.

1) you get the stream as standard - the audience is no longer available

2) no cd-text

3) they load 1 by 1

4) it's not terrible but it's not very good either

5) A lot better than in the Mk1 Octavia , and as good as most other makes of car.

6) Full size alloy wheel

7) In the UK they are standard

8) Auto on both front windows from the drivers side - from every other seat they are non-auto

9) No - the multi function steering wheel costs extra.

10) 8-12 weeks if yours is a special order that has to be made for you , but there are quite a few in the system already that only take a week or so to get. Obviously you can't pick extra options though.

In the UK curtain airbags are an option. There are 6 in total in addition to the side airbag in each front seat, and the airbag in front of the driver and passenger. So thats 4 airbags as standard and 10 if you have specified curtain airbags.

ESP is also an option on UK spec cars.

Right on the Windows thing, kust been out and checked mine. Discovered that all windows are automatic from the drivers side as I thought and the passenger side is automatic as well. Was surprised to find the rears are automatic as well.

So in summary all four windows on mine are automatic one touch opening & closing from each window switch and the four in the drivers door.

ok I just checked all 4 of my windows front and rear and they are all 1 button push, from both the drivers control and from their own buttons

(mk2 vrs)

I've asked for the price of 6cd changer and it's 400€. I think for that kind of money I can get single or double din HU and 6cd changer with CD-text and all other stuff expected from good HU. Some of you people must have upgraded your audio. Would you be so kind to tell me about your satisfaction. Have you changed to single or double din. And what about those HU's that come with remote to put behind steering wheel, that work like in Renault cars (those Sony "rotary" ones for example)?

I'm very pleased with help I've got from all of you. Thanks a lot
