Unable to connect my CITIGOe-iV to the MySkoda app since 6 August

Featured Replies

I have been unable to connect my CITIGOe-iV to the MySkoda app since 6 August. When I contacted support they suggested creating a second account, but when I did so I was unable to complete the activation process (tricky at the best of times) when it came to entering the mileage (or kms?). I eventually received this from support:

“We would like to inform you that the issue you are experiencing is related to your vehicle, which affects all remote services for MOD1 and MOD2 vehicles. Please rest assured that we are actively working on finding a solution. We extend our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this matter may have caused you.”

Are other Skoda owners affected and what are MOD1/MOD2 vehicles?

What Are MOD1 and MOD2?

  • MOD stands for “Mobile Online Dienste” (German for mobile online services)—essentially the connectivity hardware/software versions fitted to Škoda vehicles.

  • According to Škoda's official communications, these refer to generations of the connected services infrastructure used in their cars Škoda Auto.

Key Details from Škoda:

  • Škoda groups vehicles by their MOD generation: MOD1, MOD2, later followed by MOD3 (and presumably MOD4). These classifications define the capabilities and limitations of the car’s connected systems Škoda Auto.

  • MOD1 and MOD2 vehicles:

    • Will lose access to most Škoda Connect services after the impending 2G/3G network shutdown in Europe, because their hardware cannot be updated to support LTE/5G Škoda Auto.

    • Exception: MOD2 may still support Infotainment Online, but Emergency Call (eCall) will not be functional for MOD2 (and MOD1 already lacked compatibility) once networks are phased out Škoda Auto.

  • The network phase-out timeline:

    • Certain countries (e.g., Switzerland, Sweden, Iceland) will start shutting down 2G/3G on 1 January 2026. The rest of Europe follows between 2029 and later years Škoda AutoŠkoda Ireland.

Summary Table

MOD Generation

Škoda Connect Service Support After 2G/3G Shutdown

MOD1

All connected features—including Infotainment, Emergency Call—will be unavailable

MOD2

Infotainment Online might still work, but Emergency Call will not

MOD3+

These generations are planned to receive over-the-air or dealer-based updates to continue supporting services post-network shutdown Škoda Auto

In Context

These MOD classifications are not car models. Instead, they indicate what generation of connectivity system your Škoda has, which affects:

  • Whether Škoda Connect features (like Vehicle Status, Parking Position, Breakdown Call, etc.) will continue working after 2G/3G decommissioning.

  • Your ability to access Infotainment Online and Emergency Call.

If you know your car’s manufacturing date, you can check with your Škoda dealer or your vehicle’s documentation to identify whether it’s MOD1, MOD2, or a newer generation—this will determine which connectivity features remain available after the network shutdown.

I have recently bought a used Citigo iV SE L. I have spent the best part of 4 weeks trying to connect it to the MySkoda app to no effect.

Skoda Help have sent me a variety of vague and frequently out of date instructions, often referring to the Skoda Connect Portal which no longer exists and asking me to do things that are not options on the car system. They haven't sent me the excuse you have received - yet!

To say that I am hacked off with them would be an understatement. Their attitude is very cavalier.

So yes, others have this problem. I am fortunate that I don't have to charge my car overnight, as without the Skoda app working the Ohme Home Pro charger doesn't know the state of charge of the car.

Skoda are in extreme danger of losing a frequent, previously very happy, customer (this is our 4th Skoda).

I am using the VW Maps + More app which works fine on the CITIGOe-iV. The Skoda equivalent, Move & Fun, was discontinued at the beginning of the year.

This app uses Bluetooth, so the problem of connecting to the MySkoda app is removed.

Maps + More enables scheduled charging for both time and charge end state (I charge to 80% most of the time) and gives control over the charging current (which I leave at 32A).

Hi David, I had a similar problem earlier in the year and eventually managed to get my Citigo-e to connect to the app by setting the units to km in both the car menu and in the app, then enter the mileage as the km figure shown on the screen when you switch off. Once you are in, you can put both back to miles and there is no further problem with connectivity. You may have to specifically ask the help desk to reactivate the e-sim.

One thing I never managed to do with the Citigo-e was to set the upper charge limit as this cannot be set from the app (once you've got it working). However, having swapped the Citigo-e for an e-Up a month ago, I have discovered that the VW Maps and More app can be used for this, and as Richard says above it will also connect to the Citigo. You have to set a charging location ('Home'), then a departure time (all are defaulted at 01.00, but I set mine to 08.00 to correspond with my charge by time in the Ovo app), then there is the gear icon which sets the maximum charge. And you have to activate this in another section of the Maps and More app. You will get there!

I'm feeling tranquil about it as it's all working fine now, but I do remember wanting to tear my hair out in March. Unfortunately there is no money to be made from further refining the app/car interface so new owners have to rely on the collective memory of the forums.

Some people have reported success by going +- 1 from the figure in kms. Didn't work in my case, but worth a try?

Richard & ATG,

Thank you very much for your help. I have got the VW Maps & More working very easily - what was going through Skoda's head with their system.

3 questions:

Do you know where I can get a manual for the app? It's useful to understand their terminology properly. I have looked online to no avail.

Do I need to tell my home charger that I am actually driving an e-Up so it talks to the app/car?

Is it possible to control the default temperature with the app? I can't see any sign that it has that functionality.

I may give it another go with the MySkoda app, but I think Skoda Help need a bit more hassling before I give up with them :).

Thanks

David

  1. I couldn't find a manual or instructions anywhere, but I did find some useful information on a VW UP owner's club site here: https://www.upownersclub.co.uk/threads/new-owner-confused-by-maps-more.17026/?utm_source=chatgpt.com

  2. My Podpoint Solo home charger isn't very sophisticated and it still has my car as a CITIGOe-iV. There doesn't appear to be an issue when using Maps + More

  3. By default temperature, are you referring to the 22C that is displayed on the car's screen on start up?

Richard,

Yes that is what I mean, the 22C displayed at start up. I have tried holding down one or both of the +/- buttons at the desired temperature, which can sometimes work, but in this case the temp keeps reducing. The car does temporarily remember the desired temp, but after about a 30 min stop it reverts to 22C.

Any further tips most welcome. I'm going to go to local VW dealer and hassle them about a manual for Maps + More - probably won't do me any good, but they may have a workshop manual.

If you are comfortable using 3rd party apps, then this video may help. I think it should also apply to the CITIGOe-iV:

Richard,

Thanks for that. Not sure I will let a 3rd party app into the car system, but I assume the garage can set the temp memory settings when they do the next service, if I tell them how!!

I'm still trying to get a straight answer out of Skoda about my queries. I'll post their comments when/if I get something that works/useful.

I found this document which spells out which Skoda models are affected.
