How to check oil level

Featured Replies

I've got a 2025 Octavia vRS estate with the 265PS engine.

How do I check the oil level? The infotainment says it will be available to view when the engine is at temperature but with the engine off. If I check when the engine is off the same screen says it cannot be shown with the engine off! Frustrating!

I looked for a physical dipstick but nothing was obvious.

Any help gratefully received. Thanks.

Hello, welcome to the forum.

Was the engine up to full operating temperature before you checked?

It would seem to me to be a major flaw if oil level cannot be checked before starting engine - more so having to run it up to full temperature before doing so!

Yes it was. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong!

The Mk1V user manual I read indicates there is a physical dip stick. If there is one, it probably has a yellow top.

No dip stick.

& some reporting the cars saying 'Too high oil' & dealership staff saying 'Over filled' & yet new cars from a factory.

So are they being overfilled at a PDI ? When these Dealership staff say they have removed the overfill then surely Factory or Supplying dealer at fault.

Or surprise surprise yet another TPI and a software update required.

PS

There are posts online and Youtube vids where owners have been buying a kit so they have a Physical Dipstick.

After talking to the supplying dealer, two facts emerged.

  1. There is no physical dipstick despite the manual detailing how to use it and providing pictures!

  2. To actually see the digital oil level via the infotainment the key part of the procedure was to press the Start ignition button without putting the foot on the brake. Then just navigate thru vehicle settings .. Vehicle .. oil level.

It's the same on my fiancee's 2011 Audi A4 cabriolet, no dipstick and can only see the oil level on the infotainment with the ignition on. So this "progress" was already happening 14 years ago!

The 4.5 doesn’t have a dipstick. The car will tell you if the oil is too low but also click the car icon and you can see the oil level with the engine off (but ignition on)

Same when I had my 2006 BMW 325i. It’s a fairly obvious progression almost no-one checks oil regularly anyway. I did on my Subaru but it never used a drop 12 years but the Polo GTI with the twin charger is a different story 😂

I disagree with the 'at any time' assertion.
