Anyone managed to install map updates on their Columbus system?

Featured Replies

The maps on mine are out of date and I'd like to update them, I have downloaded the latest maps from their portal but the instructions on how to install them are non existent on the site. I have the Columbus system fitted to mine and the download contains two directories MIB1 and MIB2 but which one do I need to install and how?

Where did you source the update from? The update portal I found from Google has instruction links on both the main page and the page after I enter my VIN - https://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/ - in the 'It is easy - MAP UPDATE MANUAL' section.

As to which MIB, for 2019 I would guess MIB2 but I don't know for sure, but search online for 'skoda how to tell what mib i have' and there are methods to determine what MIB version you have.

@SimonB68 Thanks, that is where I sourced my update from but I missed the instructions. However I have now followed the instructions and my unit announces that it is unable to read the SD card no matter which slot I plug it into.

As a test I tried loading some MP3 files onto the card to upload to the jukebox, but that also said that was not able to read the card?

I wonder if the unit is fussy about certain cards.

I did manage to update the maps and load MP3's onto the MK3 Superb with no problems what so ever.

@Graham Butcher Format your SD card into exFAT.

Instructions say Fat32, so have you also had problems with the instructions before then?

Not exactly. Superb took NTFS but Kodiaq seems not to like it, even there is no word about file system.

FAT32 has file size limits so its better to use exFAT, just in case.

Thanks, finally I have done it and all is working just fine, I can't believe how slow the actual update on the car, it takes ages to do.

Next I'll update the radio station logos and then I'll see if I can find a complete step by step guide to resolving the traffic programme problem and get it functioning again.

Takes usually about 40 minutes.

What traffic program problem? You mean Traffic Announcements through RDS? Dont konow if it is working nowadays anyway.

Yes, that is it, there is a thread on the Superb section, but it is so disjointed and assumes that every one reading it is very technical and can follow the flow. It needs to pulled together in coherent fashion so those who want vide their radios can do so with VCDS etc and get it all working again. Skoda should be fixing the issue when doing services etc, but their not.

I have been travelling all over the Europe, many years, Waze is the most reliable source (well, sometimes TomTom as well). TA is obsolete today and not so accurate.

Graham. My 2017 kodiaq is unable to read my sd card . Mine is formatted ntfs. How did you get it to read yours. Do you uncompress the files or use exfat32

I had to format my card in the end as exfat32 and then extract the compressed file to that card using the extract feature built-in on winRAR which is the free decompression programme I use, to the SD card.

Then you pop the card into slot 1 on the satnav head unit and follow the procedure and it does it all for you, it is slow though, around 40 minutes all in.

Thanks. Will try later this evening.

Thanks. success this time.

The mistake I made was putting the whole folder on the SD card instead of just the contents
