Dash cams!

Featured Replies

I Installed a dash cam on a 2024 Skoda Superb the other day and the camera hardwire cable has a permanent live, switched and black earth. Standard for many 24hr parking monitor cams.

Now the camera has a parking mode that is activated when the ignition is switched off and the camera goes into a low voltage mode.

The issue is, the new Skoda for some reason cuts off power to the fusebox when the ignition is switched off, so the camera doesn't go into the parking mode. Interestingly though the fuses on left hand side stay live but yet the camera doesn't have power?!

I tested many different fuses such as interior lights, windows, stereo etc but the camera still turns off. It will say entering parking mode (which it does) but the car physically shuts off power to it. Never known anything like it and I've fitted dash cams to many different Vag cars.

For example, you need to use a specific earth point on vags and you need to use two fuses in the fuse tap otherwise, the camera will not come on. Regardless if it's a Nextbase, Thinkware etc.

Anyone come across this before? You probably won't have noticed with a Nextbase system with only a red switched and black earth and the camera having a battery inside it. The issue is with dash cams that have the parking mode that has a red (switched), yellow (perm live) and back earth. (Some manufacturers have the red live and yellow switched)

I'll say it again, the car literally shuts off power to the dash camera from the fusebox behind the glovebox, but the left hand side fuses still have 11.9v to them 🫣

Mental.

Maybe I'm not getting it, but don't you want the dashcam to have the power cut when you switch the car off and leave it? Parking mode runs on the dashcam battery, and it gets re-charged next time you drive it. That's how I use mine anyway. The battery deteriorated after about six years and I contacted Nextbase who kindly replaced it with a new battery for a reasonable fee.

Mine runs on via the rain sensor. And has a direct connection to the car battery. I’m soon getting a new version 4K with rear camera too.

I just found this on AliExpress: DKK741.25 | 4K 2160P Wifi Car Dvr Front and Rear Camera For VW Tiguan Tarek Atlas Polo Passat Touran Taigun Golf Arteon Sharan Skoda Dashcam

https://a.aliexpress.com/_EQUZJLS

Then I move the single 720P to my other fabia.

Front camera takes only 5 min to install. And the rear take maybe 10 min I hope.

Rear reverse camera I also installed which was a pain in the a**to get the cables alle the way clear and clean
