Car not connecting to internet

Featured Replies

Hi All, first post in a long, long time.

I got a new Superb IV in early August and all was great for exactly one month. Since then the symbol in the top right of the infotainment showing the globe and a pin has had a grey globe, even if I use my phone as a hotspot and set the car to connect to that. My app has not updated since and things like traffic on the sat nav have not worked.

I called into my local dealer, but once they confirmed the infotainment is set to use the eSIM and is not in privacy mode they lost interest and said the car would need to be booked in. If I tell you I've done over 3,000 miles in the 5 weeks I've had you'll perhaps understand how little time I have to be without it for a day.

I also had a problem with a big smear on the widescreen, which they said needed new wipers (after 5 weeks and 3,000 miles!), but again they'd need it for a day to fit them! The car is leased so a quick trip to Kwik Fit got me the new wipers, once they had convinced the leasing company that a month old car needed them.

The factory fit wipers are made of cheese. Mine did last 6 months though.

My colleague had this problem. He solved it by removing the fuse for a moment.

You don't know which fuse do you by any chance? I've just tried 19 (online services) and 30 (Infotainment) for no improvement.

I suspect I'll need to find a day to get it in to the dealer.

Leave them out for five minutes or so. You might be unlucky, but it's worth trying.

I'm a bit of an interloper these days as I swapped my last Skoda for a Seat Leon 1.5 eHybrid, but that's probably sharing a few components with the latest Superb IVs.

But I found Seat Digital Support were pretty helpful when I emailed them with a "grey globe" issue, so maybe Skoda have an equivalent digital team who may help if you contact customer services?

Also - this is possibly a silly question - but what is the phone signal like where you park your car?

The reason I ask about parking is that I had the "grey globe" a few weeks ago when I parked for several hours in a car park with no phone signal. Even when I drove away and parked in places with a better signal, and locked and unlocked the car etc, I couldn't get rid of the grey globe. My theory was that if it can't "phone home" due to poor signal, the car stops trying to use the mobile signal after a while, to preserve the 12V battery, perhaps more so with the PHEVs. If it can't find a signal, it feels like the car gives up for a while - maybe until the next day, maybe for 24 hours?

In my case the white globe came back the next day, but even then it wasn't automatic. For my SEAT there's a "Users" option in Infotainment and I seem to remember I used the option to "sync" my user account, and that eventually worked and this also made the globe white again. However this hadn't worked the day before when I'd tried it several times, and I think had not worked a few times on the second day too, so maybe this was just luck with the timing and it would have come back anyway on its own.

But if the Superb has a Users option and a Sync option within that, it's worth a try? But may not work the first few times.

I did also wonder if taking control and deliberately disabling those services in Infotainment for a day, and then enabling 24 hours later, somewhere with a good signal, may also be a way to reset the cycle if the car is deliberately trying to preserve the battery? But that's just an idea in my head- I've never tried it.

I also think lock and unlock generally make my car phone home so perhaps locking the car and unlocking several minutes later (after everything has properly shut down) may provoke it to connect, possibly in conjunction with the above?

Thanks for the ideas, I'm out of the country right now and the car is parked up at the airport for a couple of weeks. Maybe a deep sleep will help it out?

The car had been all over the place and should have had a good signal most of the time.

I'll try Skoda Support once I'm back with the car, if it's not sorted itself out with a nap.

Just to close this off the connection did indeed restore itself when the car was restarted after 3 weeks parked up at the airport. As soon as I started it and the screen came on the icon turned white.

Once I was home I checked the app and that is back to normal, although there is no trip data for the time the car was offline. I guess there is no cache on board and if the car can't update the server in a timely manner that data is gone.

Have experienced the “grey globe” & loss of connection several times now which has coincided with me parking in a particular car park.

Have left the car for several days each time but the connection does not restore by itself, I have had to resort to pulling the fuse, which immediately fixes the problem.

I’ve had a look around the menu options for the Sync option (as DavidY mentioned above that is present on the Leon menu) but can’t seem to find anything.

Surely there must be a way to reset the connection within the menu and I’ve just missed it? Having to keep removing the glove box and pulling the fuse in a brand new car just seems wrong! Anyone had any luck in finding another way to restore the connection?

Car is running the latest software as far as I know (built June 2025) so am loathed to take it to the dealer as suspect they won’t be able to offer any help.

@steve-l

Steve, mine is a late June 2025 build and had quite a few updater performed before I picked it up last week - initially told 25, then told no only 13.

You may have some queued up.

Hi John, that’s a good point, I picked the car up in September and was told it had all updates available at that point, would be interesting to know if there is any further updates above what has been installed. My system version info is as attached and is not showing any over the air updates available, would be interested if yours is showing a newer version though.

You have the same software versions as my car which I collected in February this year, I was hoping that the software had moved on a bit since then 🙁. Fingers crossed it gets updated at its first service…

Steve-I and Rifleman,

Sadly, my current setup is the same as yours.

So that idea is dead in the water. My car was a late June build, so it’s interesting that in early November, it was showing updates required on the screen.

Thanks for the info John, weird that it said there were updates on yours in November but our versions are all the same!

Will see next year when it’s due its first service if there are any updates at that point, I’ve not had any connection loss since avoiding the previously problematic car park so it’s not a massive issue for me currently. Just hope they introduce an easier way to reset it via the screen in future rather than pulling fuses it if it does drop connection.

I would not be pleased to need to resort to pulling fuses. Skoda would be getting emails to every level of management two’s email address I could identify.

Over that last 15 years of Audi A3 and Passat estates I have never had this issue, and would consider it totally unacceptable.

What is the fuse to reset the e-sim module from the car?

Fuse 19

Hi everyone, I have just taken delivery of a new Skoda Superb 2.0 Diesel SE L hatchback. This is my first Skoda and very impressed with the vehicle. The dealer had problems getting me registered on the Skoda app, and couldn't get car to connect. Tried his own app and it worked, I still can't register app on my phone. I read about pulling fuse but for the life of me can't get glovebox to drop down, the manual is not very clear, any help would be appreciated.

I have removed my 19 fuse, for more than 1 hour and still dont have car connection to Internet. Worst is that I can only ativate the guest profile. So i dont have my profile configurations and FOD like ACC and others that I paid for... Unbalivable... Skoda assistance just have available date tô watch teh problem on 13th January 😭

I might just be clutching at straws here……l

Have you down loaded and set up the App? If not then that would be my next move - just in case they are linked🤞

I contacted Skoda support and tried various different approaches to no avail, the 'Globus' on the main screen was always greyed out. After the third email from Skoda support, they said they had done a few tweaks their end and to do a factory reset one more time. Tried again, the 'Globus' this time turned white, and then managed to connect and everything now working perfectly.

In my case i have disconected for 30 minutes the 12V Battery and the problem has been solved since...
