I have a Fabia VRS Mk1.

Yellow engine light came on for first time that I can remember and the OBD2 tool gave the error code in the thread title.

Are there any easy fixes or things to check before taking it to a garage? I found this thread mentioning cleaning out carbon deposits but wasn't sure if it applies to the VRS engine.

Thinking I might have a go at this again.

1. Am I correct in thinking the EGR valve is the silver disc shaped thing just below the windscreen? Its looks easy to access.

2. Anything to watch out for before I try taking it apart?

It could be a clogged EGR valve but on my 1.9tdibxe there is an EGR cooler that has a small plastic valve that was sticking that caused same code and EML on. Not so easy to get to though.

Not sure on your engine.

EGR valve should come off complete. I cleaned mine by soaking in kerosene, Scrubbed with old toothbrush and then brake cleaner. If you have a vaccum guage check the valve is holding vaccum as well and check any vaccum pipes for damage.
