Skoda octavia 2019

Featured Replies

Hi, my Skoda Octavia produces a howling/whining noise when I turn the steering wheel to full lock at low speeds. The noise occurs in both directions and only when driving slowly. I don't think its a wheel bearing.

Any ideas?

Power steering unit or steering rack?

There’s obviously more pressure on the power steering when turning at low speeds.

Can you detect it when stationary with the bonnet up?

Gaz

My previous 2008 diesel hatchback (and my 2000 BMW 740 Sport) makes the same noise when manoeuvering. I put it down to pressure release valves in the hydraulics for the power steering but if the Skodas have electric power steering, don't know.....

On both cars, the noise disappeared when releasing the steering a tad off the stops.
