Passenger door lock removal

Featured Replies

Door lock has decided to fail but managed to get the door open with the various guides on here.

I've got a new lock but I can't for the life of me get the lock out. I've undone the 2 x splined bolts but there's the small cable that goes to the outside door handle that I just can't get out. Is there a special trick to this?

Cheers

Very simply, put a small pick on the plastic part and push it or or poke it out, you’ll see that it’ll dangle there.

As what Dean said, BUT!!!!!!!

Count how many of the grooves are visible to make sure you put the cable back in exactly the right spot. Otherwise the tension won’t be correct and the lock won’t open.

Do not close the door until you tested it successfully at least a dozen times, using a screwdriver to close the latch with the door open.

Oh yes! Don’t do what I do/did. First time I didn’t realise. But, ever since then I now count the groves left over or use a marker pen.

It’s a rite of passage. I did the exact same thing assuming tighter was better..

Job done. I think that little cable was a bit stretched as with the new lock, the outside handle had to be fully pulled for the lock to open and it was already on the last groove. I just put a knot in it and that reduced it by about 5mm, giving me plenty of adjustment.

Onto the next job lol

Good idea, I'll remember that for my next door handle job!

Glad it's all done.

Must add it to the main guide as an optional course if action in a pinch 🤣
