Chinese car brands outsell Audi & Renault in Europe

Featured Replies

From Fleet News:

"Chinese car brands registered more than 43,500 units in August – a 121% year-on-year increase and more than the individual volumes recorded by several major European brands.

Sales data from Jato Dynamics show that combined registrations of Chinese car brands last month were higher than those of Audi (41,300 units) and Renault (37,800 units).

Although registrations by Chinese car brands comprise 40 different brands, the top five players – MGBYDJaecooOmodaLeapmotor – account for 84% of the total.

By brand, MG registered more new cars than both Tesla and Fiat last month, BYD was ahead of Suzuki and Jeep, and Jaecoo and Omoda outsold brands including Alfa Romeo and Mitsubishi."

Tbh, this doesn’t surprise me.

Mrs Mac’s Arona went for servicing yesterday at the VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda dealership she bought it from.

They gave her a courtesy car -

Brand new Cupra Leon 1.5l 150bhp dsg. I think a hybrid, but didn’t get to see it as I was gone to work, and she was returning it again before I got home.

Sticker price - 45 grand. For a Leon hatchback. That’s insane money, I don’t even want to think about A3 equivalent’s price tag. So why wouldn’t people look to Chinese brands when the majority see a car as no different to a washing machine purchase?

Those figures don't surprise me either. As with @mac11irl some of the prices being charged by the established brands are crazy and the quality and value of the newer Chinese brands is often far better.

I'd have no qualms about going with any of the big Chinese brands these days... Some of the BYD and Omoda stuff is looking very enticing.
