Removing rear wheel?

Featured Replies

Came down to a flat tyre this morning (thank you Cumbrian farmers for recent hedge cutting).

Managed to get the bolts undone and the car jacked up but can't for the life of me get the wheel off. Is there a trick to this or could it be something to do with the electronic handbrake / auto hold? I've not started the car or even had the ignition on, I don't need to do that do I?

Embarrassingly have now got Skoda assist on the way, so we'll see if that's worth the money then shall we.

Nice way to spend a Sunday, got to do a 400 mile round trip for work this week.

You just need to keep knocking it side to side or get under it and knock from the back

With a rubber mallet

Steel hub + aluminium alloy wheel = corrosion

Happy to confirm that Skoda Roadside assistance is worth the money and yes, he did just hit it with a hammer :-)

Managed to get booked in for a replacement tyre on Monday lunchtime as I have to drive from Cumbria to Stratford upon Avon on Monday night. Was hoping to do it on the full-size spare but this is still limited to 50mph annoyingly 😠 Rear tyres are 5 years old and starting to crack on the sidewalls anyway.

Before you put the wheel back on, put a bit of copper grease (only a very small amount) around where the alloy wheel and the steel hub meet. This will make life much easier when you have to remove the wheel next time.
