Aircon - regassing cost

Featured Replies

My climate control has never been great and certainly doesn't seem to get the ice-cool temperatures that the rest of you seem to be reporting - other than that it seems to function properly. As such, was going to take it in to have it looked at and re-gassed if that is the problem. Before I do it just have a couple fo questions:

- how much should a re-gas cost for a Mk 1 Octy RS?

- is it worth getting it done by a main dealer or are there other / cheaper alternatives (only asking as saw Kwik-Fit advertising re-gas and even though I probably wouldn't use them thought there might be other alternatives)?

- what else could cause the problem?

Cheers :)

I used an independent BMW garage to get mine done because the service manager had previous experience of working on car air conditioning systems and I had confidence the work would be done properly. I had an anti-bacterial clean of the system done as well as the regas to get rid of a musty smell. The latter involved using dedicated equipment rather than letting off a can of antibacterial cleaner in the car with the aircon on recirc. Cost was £75 + VAT for the regas and £19.99 + VAT for the anti-bacterial clean. The system had lost around 200g of gas in just over 4 years and is much more effective now.

When getting quotes for a regas, ask what is included. This is what one specialist advises for a service.

slightly related my uncle got his coupe re-gassed and checked at kwik-fit for

My local skoda dealer farms out A/C work to one of those mobile companies.

Cheers for that - useful to know what needs to be done. Found a place in Canterbury that will do the full service including oiling, filter, leak check, regas and bacterial clean for

I used yell.com and picked a mobile company. Came to my house same day and did a full service on the drive. Took an hour and cost me

My air con service took one hour and the anti-bacterial clean a further hour.

Sounds worthwhile doing then :)

I need the Ibiza regassing, can anyone recommend somewhere in the Leeds/Wakefield area?

Mine was regassed at a place in Newton Abbot for about £50. They usually did factories and offices and stuff, but had all the gear for cars too.

Hmm anybody used anyone in the Hampshire or Dorset area.

My fathers car needs a recharge I think after taking it out and roasting today.
