Coding a battery

Featured Replies

I have a 2016 Yeti with Stop/Start and Bi-Xenons etc.
The Battery seems to be the original !!
Well played Messrs/MienHerren Varta!
The Stop-Start is ..... When it feels like it... Apart from that, no problem..
Now! I happen to have a Bosch battery of equal or better specs, bought BN and sealed from an auction, it is dated 2022... It has been in my "no-mod-cons" Citroen Berlingo.
1) Would using it in my little "tractor" have damaged it in any way?
2) Is there a "free" way to code it in to the Yeti? I have an OBD Eleven, but paying for a PRO subscription for a year, just to change a few digits, seems quite mad?
3) How much would a backstreet garage charge? And would they do it correctly?
4) How much a main-dealer or indie?
I am in the UK (Essex).
Cheers!

Where about in Essex are you ? I live in Newbury Park, Ilford. If you pass by I could code your battery in for free. It only takes a few minutes.

Your Bosch Battery looks the same as the Varta one I fitted to my Yeti in 2020.

I also changed to AGM, so the big coding difference for me was EFB to AGM.

Thank you @aubrey ! Very kind offer.. I might well take you up on it!
My original is a Varta, also AGM, so I guess I could just stick the newer one in and not tell it?image.png

You should change the serial number even if the battery type and Ah match. Changing the serial number resets the BMS to a new battery.

But you're right it will probably be fine to just swap if Ah and battery type match.

I have always put the battery change date in as the serial number, just means you can always read it later to see when you installed the battery. Many others just change from 00000001 to 00000002 etc. At the end of the day it is just change the serial number that matters, not what you change it to.

So your choice if you want to pop by just message me but if battery type and Ah match then it may not be so necessary.

Your change from 68Ah to 70Ah I don't feel is that different and as you say they're both AGM.

I was told Bosch is Varta and the Varta has JCB on it so possibly/probably that was the three letter code used (not that it matters).

Personally I would slow recharge the Bosch battery to full before installing it into the Yeti that way you know it started its Yeti use as best it could be.

ETA: I've suggested to the Mod that this thread would be better in the Yeti forum than this 'Handy Topics & Guides' forum.
