Glove box light missing

Featured Replies

I have recently purchased a Fabia 1.0 DSG Monte Carlo.

Very pleased with it however I have a couple of issues;

The glove box does not come with a light although it has the aperture for one but the light itself is missing, odd for top of the range model. All my previous Skodas (Octavia and 2 Kamiqs) had lights, I thought all models had illuminated glove boxes.

Skoda customer Services advised that it cannot be retrofitted.

Do any owners have experience of this?

?

Is it a car built during the Covid years? So common that there are things that you might expect to be standard missing. (Not fitted)

PS.

What would Skoda Customer Services know about cars.?? They are Call Centre Workers.

Obviously a glove compartment light could be fitted, it just needs a little bit of common sense.

& Wires, switch, bulb, holder, fuse.

Online comments indicate that UK-specification Fabia Mk 1, 2 and 3 cars had a glove-box light as standard, but UK-specification Fabia Mk 4s do not. This omission was mentioned here in 2023

On my 2024-built UK-marketed Fabia Mk 4 SE L car there's an oblong hole above the glove-box's drop-down storage compartment that (presumably) is intended to take a light. It's reasonable to assume from this that Fabias marketed in some other countries do have a light, but - on my car - there's no preparatory wiring behind the 'light hole'.

'Officially' retrofitting a light would require a Skoda kit of parts. I can't find any evidence that such a kit is available, so it's understandable (to me) if Skoda Customer Services advised that retrofitting a glove-box light to my car would not be an option.

As Evolution13 says, it should be possible to fit a light (that I assume an a Mk 4 owner would want to to switch itself on and off automatically when the glove-box was opened/closed) but - while a reasonably competent DIYer should be able to carry out that task - it's not something I'd expect a Skoda dealership's workshop being prepared to attempt.

My last 4 cars have had no glove compartment light nor boot lights, so I carry a torch!

I even resorted to stick on battery lamps in the boot which were very successful.

I'm surprised that your last 4 cars had no boot-light.

My 2009 Skoda Roomster, my (previous) 2021 Hyundai i20 and my 2024 Skoda Fabia Mk4 all have a boot-light, and the Roomster also has a glove-box light (that I have disabled by removing its bulb).

The Hyundai's boot-light got very hot. I replaced its bulb with a LED equivalent and I might do the same with the Fabia.

I have a Roomster and wonder why you removed the bulb from the glovebox? The bulb is constantly lit but extinguishes when the car is locked using the fob.

It's the difference between being a believer and a pessimist.

You've said (about the glove-box light) "The bulb is constantly lit but extinguishes when the car is locked using the fob", but my pessimistic view is "The bulb is constantly lit but SHOULD extinguish when the car is locked using the fob".

I considered the Roomster's glove-box light to have no value to me, so I removed its bulb to ensure it could not stay continuously illuminated.

I find a boot-light useful and it's easy enough to confirm that it goes off when the hatchback 'lid' is closed (So far it has!)

(In fact, as it was easy enough to do, I replaced all the Hyundai i20's original interior light bulbs with LED equivalents.)
