OLED or Mini LED ??? Experiences ???

Featured Replies

I had set my mind on an OLED, however, I am concerned that it's brightness may not be good enough for my room as there are windows and patio doors at opposing ends, so quite a bright room especially (obvs) throughout the summertime.

I like my Panasonics but they do not do Mini (backlit) LED (I see nothing on Curry's anyway) ...

Previously having TX-P46ST and currently TX-50GX800B (the latter, I stole for £305 ebay local)

I need a little more time researching but if anyone has experience of OLED vs Mini LED, particularly OLED viewing in a bright room, then hearing any sensible thoughts would me most appreciated.

The Mini LED I looked at was the Sony Bravia 9 but the 8 ll has some, lets say not great reviews.

Not sure about Samsung and LG sets so as mentioned, more research needed.

Thanks for any input.

Nearly a full wall of south facing glass and an old plasma is fine. Pretty certain either would be no problem and you’re better off looking at a decent set of blinds to minimise glare.

LG are the market leader, they also make the screens for a number of other manufacturers. The TVs differ with the processing electronics. OLED have improved somewhat in the last couple of years, though arguably they haven’t been that bad imo. I always thought LG were a budget brand but they lead with TV’s. I’ve had a 65” gallery (G series) model, and the 55” C series. Same screens except the g series is super thin with a small bezel. I’ve just installed a 2024 77” G series. It’s stunning tbh. I buy the previous years model before it’s sold out and get some cracking deals. There’s not a huge step change between updated models really and certainly not worth paying an extra £2K for.

Hope that helps, all the best with whatever you choose.

I realise now that Panasonic do actually do Mini LED and Curry's have them onlne also. (I must have still had the Oled search box ticked).

The difference between the two that I am considering is about £1200 so I need to compare similar pictures instore ie not a Blu Ray display disc ....

Oled are predicted to come down in price considerably if my research proves correct.

New tech is Micro LED .... well, for those that can, .... Lol.

What did you do in the end and are you happy with your choice?

I still have the old unit as I like the emissive technology rather than LED and plasma has really smooth motion vs modern stuff even if its limited to 1080p.

@Monkhai

Sorry not replied, just been off here for a while.....

Well, nothing yet to be honest.

It is only when I watch a movie or the like, that I think a larger screen would be nice.

When watching normal tv the 50" is absolutely fine.

It is 4k but I never watch anything 4k atm. It really has a great picture just viewing in standard HD (Freeview)

I have however, mounted it on an 84cm pull out wall mount, which allows me to pull the tv further into the room, which is 7m long but not so wide. The pull out bracket does make a bit of a difference.

Still considering a programme package (possibly Disney may suit) but I would also need to have fibre installed too as I currently just use mobile wifi for my broadband.

The two together will be upwards of £40 month which I think is a lot, just to watch the box, what with the Tv licence fee on top of that.

It is still a maybe, but have decided that two grand is too much to spend on a tv so it would be the BackLit Mini LED if I do go for the 65".

@Tilt If it were my money, I'd spend it on a Hisense Mini-LED. I have a 65" LED Hisense my housemates and I bought from Costco in my second year of uni - £300 and it's still going strong five years, ten moves, seventeen parties, three vans, four cars and one stairwell accident later. I'm honestly amazed.

I spent a while at uni working for Currys - as long as you get a decent one, you're laughing.
