Help!!!! Tyre Pressure

Featured Replies

I've been trying to find out the Tyre pressures for towing a caravan with a 'new' Octavia 2 .00 TDI. Looking at the petrol cap the loaded weight tyre pressures seem to be too high. Can anyone please advise me what they recommend?

 I go to France tomorrow so a few quick answers would be gratefully appreciated.

Tyre pressure adviced by the manufacturer is just fine, don't worry, just don't mix up bars and lbs. In Portugal we use bars and my car has recomendation 2.2 for normal use. I use 2.3-2.4 and my car handles better. My girlfriend once put the pressure on her Clio by a book but she got confused between bars and lbs as book had recomendation for both. She quickly ruined her front tyres.

Thanks for that,

The trouble is the manufacturers recommendation as per petrol cap is 340 bar at the rear. When I contacted skoda garage they said this was too high, but they could not tell me what pressure it should be

Hi thanks very much. I have found the owners manual a bit iffy, particularly relating to the position of fuses.

Would you suggest 2.5 bars in front and rear?

Regards

Chris:)

Hi, On mine (1.9 tdi) the figures given on the fuel cap look OK for the front tyres with 2.2 bar given as the fully loaded front tyre pressure. Only the fully laden pressure of 3.3 bar for the rear tyres is too high. So I'm using what the fuel cap says for the front - 2.2 bar and using 2.5 on the rear. This is for fully loaded. The max tyre pressure should also be on the tyre itself and for my Bridgestones the max pressure inscribed on the tyre is 44 psi which is less than the 3.3 bar/48 psi figure on the fuel cap. Confusing or what!

Hi,

I also distrust those rear pressures (although my last Ford Focus recommended 45 PSI for the similar rear tyres fully laden). As the Ford figures were found to be totally trustworthy, perhaps 48 PSI is not completely in the realms of fantasy! Who knows? I too have the new 1.9 TDI in DSG auto box, and also feel uncomfortable with 48 PSI. I do believe however that 2.5 bar (36 PSI) is too low when towing, and aim to run the car at 32 PSI (front) & 40 PSI (rear) when towing (just to hedge my bets). Does anyone find this unreasonable (I'm still open to persuasion on this issue)!

Regards all,

Paul.

Don't forget that any trailer must not place any more than 70Kg onto the towball. I tow a caravan and assume that the fully laden is adequate. Having said that I forgot to change is before my last caravan trip and had no problems.

My last tow car was a Xantia estate and on those they only quote one tyre pressure for all purposes.

mine says 2.2 but i prefer 2.1 as 2.2 feels like im skating at speed.
