Will OBDII work with my car? SFD2?

Featured Replies

I posted about turning off lane assist, and getting Scandinavian daytime running lights activated. I was going to buy an OBDII device and credits to do both with One Click Apps, but then I found this on the OBDII website:

New Volkswagen Group vehicles starting from 2024 include updated security measures (UNECE R155 & R156, often referred to as "SFD2") that limit full access to all control units. OBDeleven can still communicate with the main gateway unit, but advanced features like full scans and adaptations may be restricted.

We’re actively working with VAG and updating our software to ensure full compatibility with these new models.

Their live chat thinks that my car probably has SFD2. Their device will detect it, but is plainly ridiculous to buy the device only to find that it cannot do what I want. Is there any way to check whether SFD2 is on my car, e.g. by VIN number?, or might Skoda have just put it in with an update?

What age is your car?

AIUI anything 2024 onwards is SFD2

Hi Gizmo.

My car is 2020

Highly unlikely a 2024 car will allow you to code anything as it'll be SFD2.

On a 2020 car you will be able to code once you turn off SFD (note this isn't SFD2)
SFD was introduced in 2020, so not all if any of the car will be locked down.

Unfortunately coding anything SFD2 protected doesn't look promising in the near future... if ever.

I have an Octavia SEL, registered in May 2024. For clarity this is the new facelift version with a 13" display.

I bought OBDEleven Mark 3 with some credits for one click apps.

I have tuned off Traffic Sign Speed Warning, changed Lane Assist Setting Memory so that Lane Assist does not automatically turn on when you start the car.

Did a couple of months ago and all is good.

The list of one click apps for my car is here:

While SFD2 restricts changing most things it's important to remember that the generic OBD-II functions required since 2001 in Europe (earlier in the US) are still available, on VCDS see the OBD-II button on the home screen.
