1.6TDi engine is "under-revved" between ~1250-1500RPM

Featured Replies

My dad has a 2019 Skoda Karoq with the 1.6TDi engine and the DSG DQ250 and ~150k km on it.

I noticed that the engine doesn't really like to be between 1250 and 1500RPM because it vibrates a lot in that range, the same feeling as underreving a car

This happens very often at city speeds when you start easing off the throttle at 50-60km/h (speed limit)

I thought it was a common problem or something until yesterday when I ordered an Uber and the driver had the same car, same year engine and gearbox (asked him) and noticied it's very smooth compared to my dad's skoda

What could be the problem with this and what's the fix because it drives me crazy. Usually when I drive I downshift to a lower gear so it doesn't shake/vibrate anymore

Is it a AWD Karoq? Has the DQ250 had servicing each 64,000 km?

If front wheel drive it has a DQ200 7 speed twin dry clutch DSG.

No servicing.

Is it not in Eco or Coasting?

The 1.6 TDI only came with the DQ200 gearbox, there was no 4x4 option.

I’ve got the 1.6 TDI in my Karoq and I don’t notice the vibration you mention.

Is the engine running sweet regardless? It could be resonance from failing engine mounts, does it vibrate if you hold it between that rev-range whilst in Park?

Sorry, I wrote it wrong. It is in fact the DQ200, yes.

I know Skoda and VAG in general don't recommend changing the gearbox oil but, if I remember correctly, it was done after we bought the car (it was SH)

The car usually stays in the normal driving mode and on longer drives usually at least 2-3 times put in sport and revved-up for overtakes

The car is running really well in general other than this problem. Haven't yet tried to hold it at that RPM while in park, will speak with my dad to try to do this and see if it also happens then

you definitely should have the oil and the mechatronics oil changed. I read somewhere 40k miles was a revised suggestion for the interval. No gearbox is maintenance free. I recently had mine changed due to a suspected fault, the oil was full of swarf and the bearings needed changing.

@yan101 Where did you read of a revised suggestion of the MCU oil changed at 40,000 miles?

Could you maybe put up a link?

VW Group have had over 16 years to give any Service Schedule for the MCU oil or the Oil in the box of a DQ200 DSG.

There gets to be a build up of stoor in beside the dry clutches.

^^^.

Interesting on the failure you had.

I’ll have to have a look around. I’m probably getting confused with some post I’ve read rather than an official revised schedule.

There are posts on here from members or a member saying he had advice from Skoda UK, and it was then posted as from a Dealership. Then when they tried getting a Main Dealer to service the DQ200 DSG on their 1.5 TSI ACT they could not get one to do it.

But plenty Automatic Gearbox Specialists around that will service a DQ200.

Nit that the MCU oil needs changing at 40,000 miles. Unless you want to have done obviously..

Yeah I probably saw on here or another forum. Id get it done. Plenty of places will do it. Just piece of mind really.

The issue is getting someone that knows their Ar$3 from their elbow, and know what they are doing with a pretty simple job that many mess up.

The Oil in the gearbox i understand doing at higher miles, but not in the MCU @ only something like 40,000 miles.
