Dead battery, cant open passenger door to operate bonnet catch in order to jump start

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I've been having issues with battery charge and possibly the starter motor (all TBC tomorrow at the garage). My plan was to jump start the car in order to drive to the garage, however after getting access to the drivers side using the key manually I then cannot open the passenger door due to total lack of electrical power. The problem is that the lever to unlock the bonnet only operates when said passenger door is open. Can anyone advise how I could open the passenger door or find another way to open the bonnet?

Thanks very much!

Neil.

Hello, welcome to the forum.

The safest way is to plug an external 12 volt supply into the permanently live 12 V socket to power the central locking - ensure correct polarity! Centre contact is + Positive.

With care, it is reported to be possible to gently bend the hood release lever towards centre of vehicle enough to allow it to clear passenger door and release the hood (not had to try this myself. Yet)

I've tried it and it does work.

Thanks both. I did try manipulating the handle somewhat but it was pretty stiff and was nowhere near coming clear of the door. Unfortunately I don't have a 12v power supply so cant try that at the moment. Any other thoughts? Am consigned to getting the recovery folks out next.

I'm surprised, you only need to pull it out a little bit to clear the speaker.
