Choosing all season tyres 205/45r16

Featured Replies

Hi there

I am thinking of upgrading my tyres as we live in the sticks and I have a bunch of xmas markets coming up which we are attending.

Current tyres are Triangle th202 87v all round summer tyres.

I have a Fabia 2013 1.2tsi Scout Estate and it's got an unusual wheel size and therefore limited choice and more expensive. Thanks Skoda!

The tyres i am looking for are 205/45r16 87v

Being an estate I need to lug stuff about so I think I need the greater load up 87v rather than 83 which rules out the Vredestein and Michelin Cross Climates as these both appear to 83 load

Someone said that if I go for 83s I won't be able to carry as much before the tyre sinks into the rear wheel arch.

Im currently thinking Maxxis ap3 and Kumho Solus 4s ha32.

I am looking something good in the wet as we live in Devon where is rains for 90% of the year.

These two both have the higher load.

Just wondered if anyone had any other recommendations?

Cheers

Phil

Ps My last car was a fabia 2009 hatch and that has cross climate which were brilliant. Only snag is that in the 205/45r16 size they are nearly 200 pounds each fitted and the load rating is less.

Plenty threads in the Tyre section that might help. I have CrossClimate 3 on my EV. Ok on the snow yesterday. Price on them was very good. I had Maxxis AP3 on my MINI Electric last year, they were great. They went on instead of the Vredstein Quatrac Pro i fitted when i got the car. They were OK, not great in snow though. My 205/ 55 R 16" tyres are V 96 All were good in dry and wet / cold. There are Youtube tyre comparison vids linked in the threads.

Thanks

Not sure if can fit 205/55s otherwise there will be even less room between the top of the tyre and the wheel arch. Can see it rubbing when the back is loaded up with our market stuff and stock

The Vredestein and Michelin are both 83 load. Ideally i need 87s hence the question

Why not go for 195,s? I had 195/55 R 16,s and 205/45 R 16's. Check out the sizes available on the ASDA Tyre site. CrossClimate 3,s are probably all you need. Plenty choices in All Seasons with higher Load / Speed Ratings. XL sidewalls. ATS Euromaster. Michelin own them. MAXXIS AP3 on left, Vredstein right. Maxxis AP3,s reviewed in the AP2 thread, i had them fitted on a Fabia vRS & a Corsa Electric. Also Michelin Alpin 6 & Tigar Snow tyres.

Thanks for the reply

I did think about 195/55 which are alot cheaper but I guess if I go for 55s it will reduce the gap between the tyres and the bottom of wheel arch so more likely to rub when the car is loaded

I've found a review of the Maxxis and they look OK. I think I'll probably go for these as they have the higher load rating

Sons got GT radial all season on his fabia. Plenty of grip in wet and dry. I run GT radial summer on my Octavia with zero complaints. Not sure if they do the size your looking for but they are a mid range tyre which I have used for a couple of years now. Watch the wet/dry rating on winter/all season tyres. Some are really bad.

Thanks guys.

I've decided to go with Winter tyres rather than all season. The ones im getting are Kumho Wintercraft vp52+ I looked at my current tyres and they are pretty new. We live at the top of a hill that is ungritted so in the winter it turns into a skating rink. No tyre is perfect but these winter tyres look the best bet. I can then swap back in the spring.

CHEERS for the advice everyone. Really appreciated.
