Octavia 2023 - gearbox faulty

Featured Replies

Hi,

I drive a 2023 Octavia 1.5 TSI MHEV, DSG, 22000km.

Yesterday, after opening the door I was welcomed by a beeping noise and an orange "Risk of rolling away. P unavailable. Please apply parking brake" message on the dash.

Car started up normaly.

Put it in D. Automaticly switched back to N and the message switched to red one "Gearbox faulty. Pull asside safely."

After that refused to go in to D or P.

The messages on the dash switching between the orange and the red one.

Towed the car to the service center.

Ofcourse it turns on normally with no issues and no error history.

According to them, there is nothing they can do.

Experiences and suggestions?

Cheers.

Attached is the orange error, didn't photo the red one.

Had this on PHEV due to faulty 12V battery. In my case just restarting the car was enough to keep moving.

How did you link the cause to the faulty battery?

I was thinkering with it for about 20 mins while waiting for the tow truck with multiple restarts, lock ups, restarts etc, with no effect (it was also refusing to lock since it wasn't in P, had to lock it through the open window using the dash button).

Workshop told me it was battery fault. Perhaps helped that it wasn't the first issue I had related to 12V, so they finally replaced the battery.
FWIW after the battery was replaced I still had issues. No faults, but engine was starting up constantly for no reason. Then another tech in another workshop made full diagnostics and saw some voltage imbalances between different gateways, which led him to a solution. So I'd think if they investigate properly, they will find what caused faults with your gearbox. The problem is usually in workshops they just do quick error codes reading and if they see nothing, they say there's no issue.
