Power Steering Pump DIY Instructions

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Just wondering wether anyone would be good enough to describe briefly how difficult it is to replace the pump -

I've had a look and it doesn't look too bad. Are you sure it's the pump and not the angle sensor?

Thats what the dealer said - Doubt he is correct as its only done 20k miles ....

It all depends on what you can buy a pump for. See if you can grab a steering angle sensor if they've not removed it. It might be worth trying the sensor first.

We changed the sensor on our 1.9td but a week later.... no steering assist; luckily RAC paid for the pump (they wouldn't pay for the sensor)

Sensor faults arent age/mileage related, there is a modified part.

And there are a vast number of different PAS pumps so id make sure part numbers match up. They arent all the same as software changes in the ECU.

To change if you need to remove the n/s arch liner and its accessed through there, the sensor comes with a loom and goes from the pump all the way around the back of the engine bay across the rack to the column end.

Hi,

Is this job difficult - I removed the pump from a scrap car easily but it was a lot easier to get to. Also you ve got all the hoses which need draining and then remounting.

I put the car on the jack and got underneath but it looked to me like the whole bumper needed to come.

Once the arch liner is off , is access fairly straightforward? I know it s three screws to get off but putting them on is always much harder

Did anyone come up with a guide for this?

Official instructions can be found at erwin.skoda-auto.cz if you're happy to pay 3 euro for access

Had the front bumper off my vRS when I had it to replace the fog light, put instructions in another thread but when I was there the power steering pump was there easily seen so I think that would be the best way, or combine the two by removing the bumper and the n/s front wheel arch to gain access round the rear of it.
