Gearbox output shaft seal change

Featured Replies

So at 300k I am treating my Fabia (mk1 combi, 1.9tdi) to a load of new parts. On the list is a new output shaft seal (Drivers side, I think that’s the longer shaft side) as the original is spewing oil all over the back of the block. (So it’s also due it’s first ever gearbox oil change too!)

Removing the driveshaft is a very familiar job by now, but does anyone have any tips on where to go from there? From memory I think that there is a bolt in the centre of the flange that the driveshaft bolts onto - is this removed and it slides out of a spline which then allows the seal to be prised out, or is that wishful thinking?! Any tips much appreciated!

Many thanks,

A

I think your correct re centre bolt but from memory from reading an article in case I had to replace my sons when doing clutch I think theres a spring behind it which makes it quite difficult to replace when gearbox is in car as you have to compress the spring at the same time as replacing bolt. I may be wrong on this but someone on here will know.

Meant to add 300k is impressive on a fabia even the 1.9tdi!
