Error: headlight range control

Featured Replies

I've started getting this error message while driving and it will disappear after a few minutes then a little later it will be back again, has anyone else had the same issue? Is it easy to fix?

It's on my 2017 Octavia estate 2.0D SEL it has the full LED lights

Thanks in advance. . . .

Hi Cairus, I've not had a chance to plug the OBDeleven in yet, I didn't think that there was any memory in the system to log faults and with it coming and going I wasn't expecting to be able to find anything.

I've finally got around to plug in the OBDeleven and there were 10 faults, and unfortunately I reset the lot of them but this fault came straight back, in the central electrics section.

I've added some screenshots as there's 3 faults and it seems to be a module or sensor that is grounding out. . .

The task I think is going to be locating the part and seeing if I can get a replacement.

The sensor you need to look at is the one attached to the rear suspension. There are a fair number of reports on the forum where the front or rear connecting arm has broken or detached from the sensor.

Cheers Warrior193, I found a video on YouTube an American guy had an issue with this on his A3 and the ball socket joint bust or seized up and snapped, so I know where I need to look, it just depends on finding a replacement, ones I've seen so far are for xenon lights so I'm wondering if they will be ok as I have led lights all round?

I'll get under it at the weekend and take a look.

I'll also look up some of the previous issues on here 👍

Check the part numbers, but I suspect that the level sensors for either light system will be identical - as they are merely sending an adjustment to the lighting system for level according to vehicle loading.

Update. . . .

I managed to get to the local dealer and we were able to identify the part, it is the full assembly so I got it on order last Saturday, but the guy was new and couldn't work the till, so another chap called me on the Monday and as I had to pay on order they sent me a link and £242.40 was transferred, they called me two days later saying it had arrived.

I picked it up today and decided as I'm now off work I'll get it fitted.

It was a bit of a faff with the car up on one axle stand, but I removed the ns rear wheel, a short section of undertray and it made it quite accessible, using a stubby screwdriver and torx bit I got the old one off and the new one plugged in, bolted in place and the undertray refitted etc.

A few pictures below. Notice it's a VW part, no wonder it was so expensive 😂

Started the car up, the headlights did their little dance up and down and no error on the screen, so a winner.

The old one was seized up good and proper, but after 8 years and circa 108,000 miles I don't think it was that bad.

Great you've got it fixed, thanks for reporting back.
