Key problem

Featured Replies

Hi! Has anyone else had a similar problem with their car keys? First, one key started acting up so that it would just go dead — the car wouldn’t recognize it, the doors wouldn’t unlock, and the car wouldn’t start because it didn’t detect the key. The red light on the key didn’t blink either. At first, I obviously thought the battery was low, even though the car never gave a warning. The battery wasn’t the issue — if I remove the battery for a while and put it back in, the key starts working again. I also tried new batteries.

I figured the key itself was faulty and started using the spare one. Now that one has started doing the same thing.

Could there be something wrong on the car’s side? On the other hand, with this second key too, even the LED on the key doesn’t blink. Could it be that both keys are faulty?

And this isn’t a one-time thing — the first key did this probably around 10 times before I switched to the other one. The car is a 2019 Octavia.

Have you put in new batterys into the keyfobs? I've found that you need to use ALL the keys regularly, otherwise the MK3.5's have a habit of forgetting the keys.

Is it a regular keyfob or a KESSY keyfob?

Octavia key fobs are very sensitive to the battery - even some brand new batteries don't work. It seems that time since manufacture and even manufacture are important.

I always fit Duracell CR2032 - they do fit despite being 0.7mm thicker than the CR2025 that Skoda fit.
