40,000 Service Cost OCT-VRS

Featured Replies

A Newboy here.

"Service miles 1000" appears on dash..................a silly queston but does this mean its due in 1000 miles ? Car shows 37765 miles at the moment, last serviced with 20084 on the clock, done last year by previous owner.

Service book says 40,000 or 2 years, then in someones writing says under 20,000 service "see dash indicator for next service"

Was epecting it to come on around 40000.

Popped into all electric skoda halesowen and they prices me up at

Yours is on variable service intervals where the need for a service can be indicated anywhere between 15,000 km (9321 miles) and 30,000 km (18642 miles). You are doing well to get the latter figure.

wont you be needing a cambelt replacement at 40k also ?

I have just been quoted

wont you be needing a cambelt replacement at 40k also ?

60k or 4 years.

60k or 4 years.

ah yes of course you are correct sir:O

My service indicator seems to be coming on towards the lower figure

Maybe if I did not drive it so hard it may last longer between services :D

Booked my car in at all electric halesowen for 2 weeks time. £275.00 including VAT.

Good enough price, i've been quoted £280 inc vat at Horners Manchester (Bury New Rd) for my 40,000 mile.

I'm hoping to get a little discount too with my loyalty card, he he.

If you want a price comparison, my two closest dealers have just quoted £350 and £310 for my vRS on variable servicing @ 40k miles, with the extra charge for brake fluid change £25 and £50 respectively :o

I'd love to know what they're planning to do for that money....

Went to halesowen skoda to get some plastic nut caps today, never had any so they are going to contact me when they have some.

Checked the service they had me booked in for next tuesday, they had me down for a Imspection Service @ 40k not a variable service @ 40k, so glad i went in and checked it out and got it changed.

This is the new quote they gave me and this is going to include:

Skoda octavia hatch

1.8T 20V RS MPI manual AUQ 180 BHP

Variable - full service - 40k miles

filter....................... 1 @ £4.70 = £4.70

plug........................4 @ £12.22 = £48.88

element..................1 @ £14.10 = £14.10

filterem...................1 @ £15.28 = £15.28

screenwash............0.5 £@ 2.43 = £1.22

plug........................1 @ £0.96 = £0.96

1lt variable oil.........4.6 @ £11.16 = £51.35

Total for parts £136.48

Labour 2.5 hours

Total Service Cost = £284

When was the car first registered and what was the date of the first variable service?

  • Author

it was registered jan 2004, its first variable was done at 20,085 miles. 25/6/05.

It was due a brake fluid change at 24 months so add that to the forthcoming service if it hasn't been done.

cheers mate, unsure if its been done, doesnt say on the 20k service paperwork, so best get it done. will let them know next week when i take it in. That puts the price up again, ahhhhhh!

It might be recorded in the Service Record book and/or on a label under the bonnet on the passenger side.

  • Author

service book states not changed at 20k, so going to have it done next week then.

Just had the call. "car is ready for collection sir"

40K Service and brake fluid change, Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

£332.23

ill have to work my magic and see if i can get them to move on that, when i collect.

Like the service price list on page 1, my service was complete 16/08/06.

'Sneaky' (i'm sure that was his real name), the service rep starts to run through the receipt and continues straight past 'FILTER - £17.00' at which point I had to stop him.

"Which filter is that?" I ask.

"That's your engine filter!" he replies.

"What the one in your air box?" I say.

"YEA!" he quirks back, starting to eyeball me a bit.

I grab the guy by the shirt and pull him close, putting on a bit of a Clint Eastwood accent, I tell him, "Well, he ain't fitted that to my car, because I don't have an air box anymore."

Now thinking that the after market air filter has just void my warrantee, under which they fitted a new 'Coolant Temperature Senor - £40'.... The chap then says, "Oh, I’ll go and check the box in the back."

Moments later the slightly less brass balls 'Sneaky' the rep returns;

"Yea, the air filter is still in it's box, urm he must have just printed of a batch receipt for the usual service..."

"Yea I bet he did." I said under my breath.

So, with the air filter off there, a 'screw - £1 ish' added as payback (lol), and my 10% Horners 'Loyalty' discount.

'40,000 Service - £256.00'

All above is based on the true life events of 'davethefish', any similarity to Clint Eastwood is purely coincidental, any shirt grabbing didn't actually occur (Copyright 2006. FISHWORKS LTD)
