Hello All

Hope you are doing well

My Rapid 2014 TSI petrol 93k miles started weird tickling noise from few days on cold start

it stays for 5-10 sec and disappear

RPM is normal.

I am attaching the audio here.

Does anyone have idea about what this could be ?

Best regards

Aravind Y

I don't think that there is anything to worry about, just noises from tappets getting oil pressure up to them and there will be extra petrol injectors noises at cold start.

@AravindY As above. Just checking though, at the last oil & filter change was the correct oil used so to VW 504 00 /507 00 which is 5w 30 FS III (Long Life for fixed or variable oil changes) or if just doing Fixed Oil service regime VW502 00 5w 40 FS ?

Thanks for your reply
Yes, i got it serviced with right VW engine oil and filters. Also, the garage told the chain is good with no issues.

They had no idea about the sound. He told if the sound is consistent then it must be a serious issue. If not then you can continue to drive. But just be cautious if the sound increases/comes while driving

Another point he mentioned - there is more carbon deposit inside since the old owner didnt look after the car well. So, he flushed the engine. Told me to go with carbon cleaning service in the next service.

whats your opinion here?

IMO, Run it on e5 Super Unleaded for the higher octane and detergent package (Tesco Momentum 99) & use Non Long Life oil and change the spark plugs at 40,000 miles or less, check the air filter annually and do not go for any carbon cleaning service.

Hey, thanks for your help.

I notice that you are experiencing the rickety sound when the car is in idle due to oil seal.
On my car it happens for 5-10 seconds on cold start.

if the engine is already warm then there is no such sound. It ignites so smooth
