Panoramic roof crack

Featured Replies

Hi, we have owned our Rapid Spaceback for 4 years and loved it, one of the best things is the panoramic roof which seems incongruous given the poverty spec of the rest of the car. My wife has been using the car this week without incident and this morning we noticed the panoramic roof appears to have spontaneously cracked to the front above the nearside door. I have examined this as best as I can and can see no obvious signs of strike/impact damage. Has anyone else experienced this?

The damage will only be covered on our insurance under the accidental damage section which aside from paying a £300 excess will likely impact our insurance going forwards. However, I cannot imagine this is a cheap replacement otherwise.

We are not attached to the car but cannot imagine a dealer will take it as a trade in. I will take it to an auto glass centre next week, any help in the meantime would be appreciated.

Thanks Evolution, I have read all of those.

Looks like I will be visiting Autoglass etc.

Dealer will take it as a trade in if the roof is readily available but of course the replacement will lower the figure they offer.

Getting any Land Rover Jaguar (TATA) parts has been a bit of an issue recently including roofs.

Panoramic roofs are a great idea in principal but real world is a different matter, like motor sunroofs, drainage and keeping the run channels clear are often not as well thought out and attend to by car manufacturer and car owners. It's all very well having a sweetshop full of all these goodies with a car but things often get very sticky and gummed up. Modern made cars are for renting out only until the warranty runs out, and VW ain't Korean offering 7 years (unless in Australia perhaps IIRC).
