New owner - first service

Featured Replies

I'm picking up my Superb mk4 on Friday this week: 25 plate 2.0 TDI 4x4 Hatchback. It's only done 6k miles since it was new in February 2024. What is the general view on first service for longevity of the engine? Would a basic oil and filter change now be a waste of money and I should wait for the first service internal, or is it a good idea given the first few thousand miles will pick up any contamination from build and running in?

Thanks in advance for your help!

An Oil and filter change now would be simply clever. It is due an Oil & Filter service pretty much now if on Variable servicing and not done already. It is due an Oil & inspection Service in February. You can have set on to Fixed Servicing 9,400 miles / 372 days or have on Variable / Flexible 18,000 - 20,000 / 24 months depending on how many miles / use suits you. But for the Manufacturers Warranty a service / oil change is required. Is it not a Skoda / VW Group dealership selling you the car? So requires the Oil & Filter, Pollen Filter, Brake Fluid if following the Manufacturers Service Schedule, Guidelines / Advice. Body inspection for the Warranty should be done by Main Dealers but might well not get done. Even though they charge a Premium and Skoda list it in their websites. Not required as per Warranty T &C,s but yet Skoda UK / VW will point out no record of being done.

Thanks for coming back to me. It is a Skoda dealership I am buying the car through - when I asked, they said it didn't need doing until 24 months. This is why I was a little uncertain and was going to opt for a basic oil and filter change for my own peace of mind. I suspect, they push the variable to reduce the cost of ownership calculations for buyers so all looks better on paper?

They are chancers or the sales person / manager is. I would tell them to think on... Servicing due maybe within 500 miles, 3 weeks. Is it not a Skoda Approved used car? All the Skoda leave the factory on Variable / Flexible servicing. So that is not unusual. Some get changed to Fixed at the PDI. ?When was this cars PDI done. Maybe a week or 3 pre First Registration.

Be Sure the full safety checks are done, and the body inspection and put on the system. That could be while their Workshop does the Service due very soon. Get the copy....

All really helpful @Evolution13 . Where can I get the service schedule for the car online to see what is due at what interval? I looked at the user manual on Skoda's website and no mention in there.

There is almost nothing and no extra cost to them really, Oil, Filter & Pollen Filter, the car should be getting inspected anyway. Then they pay Tax on Profits so the service cost is part of their costs and they do not put it through as 'cheap'. This older Green Chart is based on Fixed Servicing and not that accurate,.

In the UK, the '25' number plates were released on March 1, 2025, for new cars registered between March and August 2025?

Hi , if it was my car I would have the car serviced as you know exactly where you are regarding service history.

When I put hased my car the service was " variable" but the car had the oil changed annually , the cars annual mileage was 5500.I had the car service package adjusted to " annual "

My car was Skoda approved and I received all the correct paper work on collection of the car. ( Including service )

Main concern was to the engine oil they used to fill the engine , it was Castol 0-20W as recommended by by Skoda. ( I think your car has a diesel engine )

My real annoyance was that the tyres although premium where different manufacturers and different thread depth.

I had four new Michelin's fitted.

Al though I cannot substantiate my next comment I believe that it does not help that cars with electronic driving aids can behave strangely with different tyres.

Apologies @Stonekeeper , I got my month wrong! It was first registered in March 2025.

Thanks @Evolution13 . I asked the dealer and they confirmed it's on Flexible hence their view it's not due yet. I can't convince them to do the service, already largely agreed pending test drive (as I've not seen in the flesh yet) and collection on Friday. The car is 260 miles away from me so all is done remotely so far.

Did you get it done at the dealer or at an independent?

it's being done on the 2nd Feb at the dealers

  • 1 month later...

Am sure I read the 1st service is 30000 kms or 3 yrs.

ICE cars leave the Factory on Variable Servicing so @ 24 months, 18,000-20,000 miles. But might get reset at the PDI to Fixed OIl Service regimes of 9,400 miles / 372 days.

We collect our TSI 265PS on 16 March. I have asked the dealer to switch the car's on board reminder to the fixed schedule. Thank you for the details about the servicing and maintenance items etc.
