Issues with dealership

Featured Replies

Hi all

Just bought a 21 plate VRS iV last week that was sold as an approved used Skoda.

During the prep for the sale they discovered that the car needed a new tyre and fitted one to it prior to collection. Now after I collected the car on Saturday, I very quickly discovered there were a few issues with the car that I couldn't raise until Monday morning.

The list of issues I had with the car after driving off the lot on Saturday 17th

1. All tyres were massively under inflated, most notably the OSF which was set to 11psi and the brand new one NSR was 25.

2. Tracking was miles off, and car massively pulled to the right

3. Window wipers were beyond useless, massive streaks across the window with slight rain never mind heavy rain.

4. Constant pop ups about an update that's required, car wouldn't let me do it as using a mobile hotspot or even my home router doesn't actually send any data to the car. I get the red globe icon in the infotainment

Was booked in today to get the above issues resolved and it's came out now with the car pulling to the left quite a bit under acceleration, but the steering wheel sits centre now YAY!.....

I was also informed that it needed a new NSF tyre and this would be supplied and fitted. However, I have now discovered they have fit to completely different branded tyres on the front and the back 2 are the same. So all in 3 different brand tyres and tread patterns.

They told me the updates that the car was looking for was installed, which quite clearly it wasn't as it's still asking me to do it, and the software version for the infotainment is 1891(potentially, I honestly can't remember the numbers)

Am I being unreasonable to think that is just ridiculous and that they should have atleast matched the branded tyre they fitted less than 72 hours prior? and that the software update was actually performed? They have told me this should be an OTA thing, but the Users won't actually let me login, it just endlessly spins.

Sounds like the dealer doesn’t give a wotsit, whereas they ought to be on the ball and have it properly sorted before collection.

Yes, it is perfectly reasonable to expect matching tyres.

They should fix the tracking and pull to one side.

An approved used Škoda should have all software updates installed (it’s in the advertising blurb).

From your description, the wipers would be an MOT fail so I reckon should have been replaced.

D’you feel like ‘naming and shaming’ the dealer on this forum? There’s a section for dealer reviews too.

sounds like complaining enough actually gets you somewhere, they replaced the ****ty Falken tyre they put on it originally to match the new Bridgestone.

tracking and the pulling to the left has also been sorted today.

software update they are still adamant there is nothing they can do in the dealership and it has to be done OTA from Skoda. My car doesn't have the OTA capability according to this website Availability List

It's Ingram Skoda in Ayr. Sales seem to be a complete joke in all honesty, but now that it's been in the hands of the service department it seems to be actually going somewhere (except the updates)

Hi , when I purchased my Skoda Superb I received a confirmation a week or so letter confirming that I purchased a Skoda Approved car.

I would have reported the issue to Trading standards about your car condition on collection.( Assuming Trading standards is in Scotland or equivalent ) plus Skoda UK

That's good to hear!

OTA is now a 'thing' and the preferred means of updates. However, early build cars don't have the capability my Sept 2020 registered car being one of them. A clue would be to look in the app if you can - mine supports the 'Honk & Flash' function but NOT the Lock/Unlock nor in the mapping/routing tab the capability to 'Send to Car'.

I can't even get it to connect to the car in the first place, it just spins endlessly and tells me that it can't load my settings.

That’s not something I experienced with mine, had most other s/ware issues but not that one. It does sound familiar though, folk back in 2021 posting on this forum about it I’m sure. IIRC it was a dealer installed update &/or the comms/SOS module that fixed it.

Sorry to hear about your problems. Unfortunately issues such as this seem to come up time and again on this forum with Approved Used Skoda.

The car has a built in eSIM, so should download updates OTA via that. There's no cost to you, and you don't need a data plan with Cubic in order to do it. Nor, do you need to connect to your home WiFi. The fact your car has a red X suggests there's an issue with the eSIM module. So the dealer need to fix that... it's probably another software update.

If your software really is on version 1891, then it's miles out of date. I believe the latest version of software is 1989.

It really is worth getting the software update issue sorted out while you're in warranty, and have picked up the vehicle very recently. Bear in mind there are a lot of other modules in the car which may require updates. The only software version you can see in the car is the infotainment. If you search the forum you will see this subject come up many times, and most of us with early cars that persevered had the following updates: telematics, OCU, infotainment, virtual cockpit. I'm sure there's some others I've missed.

I'm in the situation with my car which is currently on infotainment version 1941 where it doesn't update the infotainment automatically. Other app updates do get pushed OTA. As per another forum thread, a menber got Skoda to update the OCU to version 0144. Once this was done the car started getting the bigger infotainment updates OTA.

I've now raised a question with Skoda and they agree my car should be updating the infotainment automatically and want to install some updates on it (they've not divulged exactly what). My only question to the dealer is who will pay as typically out of warranty they want to charge, so that's a discussion that needs to happen with the dealer and Skoda.

Don't give up. The early vehicles are fine, if you can get over the hurdle of getting the software set-up correctly.

It may also be raising the issues with the Skoda Executive Office. Their e-mail address is: [email protected]
