Strange engine sound after turning off in freezing temperatures

Featured Replies

My Kamiq is making a strange sound after turning off the engine when the temperature is below freezing. It does this on repeat with about 15 seconds delay per occurrence about 5-10 times. Eventually it stops. It makes a somewhat similar sound ”normally” at warmer temperatures but without the cracking sound and repeats. It seems like the engine is trying to do something but is not succeeding due to the below freezing temperature. What could this be? Otherwise the car drives fine.

Never heard that at below zero temps

No idea - sorry.

on my 1.5 tsi electric pump keeps on running for few minutes, after turning of engine, warm weather or cold, nothing else. which engine do you have, its elementary to write.

Sorry I forgot to mention the engine type, it’s a 1.0 tsi evo (81 kW) DSG. There is almost always a few second high pitched electrical sound then some mechanical ”things” happening after turning off the engine, probably some valves closing or something. This seems to be that ”thing” but just not quite happening correctly in freezing temperatures. I’ll have to mention it at my next service, but I suppose the sound is harmless if there is no warning lights and the car otherwise drives fine.

Well mine certainly makes a number of noises after I switch off the ignition. Our Golf is the same with similar sorts of noises.

Is that not just the throttle body doing a bit of “self calibrating” ie checking its end stop voltages.
