Just wondering if it’s possible to swap the current Skoda DSG gear know with a Mk7 and equivalent DSG gear know which is slimmer and seem to be in the other VAG cars and not Skoda

6 speed version to 6 speed

Don’t think it’s speed-dependant.

@JR RS has done it. Check out his project thread. Not sure if it was just Superb specific but I’ll bet my wisdom tooth they mostly if not all switch between. It was a thing to switch to a Kodiaq one too I think

Thanks, only saw the Kodiaq gear knob but don’t like them.

Wanting to fit a Alcantara gator at the same time so thought why not do the gear knob too

@travs - unfortunately not me. I haven't changed my DSG gear shifter.

I did however change the side bits, to match the leather on the seats and the steering wheel.

But as u say - most VW Audi DSG shifters will work on Skoda models.

at least u were on the right path being DSG shifter related.

@tombee - yes, u do need to to pop the top cover off if u plan to remove the entire shifter. it makes it easier to unhook the shifter linkage.

there quite a few vids on youtube showing how to remove the DSG shifter. i watched a couple of different ones before i pulled my apart.

Some of the parts have arrived, gotten a new MK7 shifter knob and leather gaiter, so have removed them from each other now.

Just waiting on the gaiter and gear know insert, but now I am wondering about changing the sides of the gear knob like you have done @JR RS but for the Mk7 shifter knob

Where did you order gaiter from? My shifter is fine but want to change the gaiter.

Are you wanting a leather gaiter?

I got the Alcantara one from Kolour Koncepts

A friend of mine has a TCR so he measured the gaiter of his, the Superb is smaller so have taken a chance on it all.

The gaiter that came off this Mk7 gear know was brand new if you are interested

The Alcantara side and top items for the gear knob have arrived, just got to wait for the Alcantara gaiter to arrive

But I am happy how the colour matches the steering wheel.

The gaiter arrived this morning and had the Skoda gear knob off earlier, was a lot easier than I had thought, thanks to @Binx1310 for the manual to confirm.

Had to trim the new gaiter as for a mk7, with then gluing on the new to existing Skoda surround to then mount in the DSG panel.

Fitting the new gear knob was easy also and it came with a new metal clamp ring also.

I am very happy with the results of these bits matching the steering wheel.

Looks good. I found with mine i got a bit of whitening of the gloss black around the gaiter from the superglue fumes. I think I was a bit impatient putting it all back together!

WD40 on a cotton bud cleans it off though so all good now.
