Engine bay cleaning

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. Had a good cleaning session today, using clay for the first time too which i was really impressed with, then polished and finally waxed. Now the exterior and interior is squeeky clean how do I clean the engine bay? Its not excessively dirty but i'd like to give it a scrub anyway. Any products anyone could recommend and methods would be a great help.

Thanks Matt :)

Anyone?:)

I use tyre foam!! it cleans well and leaves a long lasting finish. Try it!

I thought one of the detailing guru's may have answered :-)

My engine bay is spotless and nice and shiny, I use a motorcycle product for it, Scottoiler FS365, it is an oil based anti corrosion agent and it shines and protects.

It's around

i used a 2 pack called CD2 from Halfords on my vRS before Trax last year and half the pics i took of the engine bay needed the brightness turning down in PhotoShop afterwards as the shiney bits were too bright !!!

I did go back to my local Halfords to get another pack but couldnt find one so bought some engine cleaner called Gunk or something (bright orange can). i still have half a can of the detailer from the CD2 pack left so just wanted something to get the grime off.

not wanting to hijack but,

anyone tell me how to get the cover off the fab vrs engine, and also what bits really wont respond well to water? ie which bits should i cover up?

back to topic: i've just been using a qd spray and a cloth this seemss to bring up the covers nicely.

i'd hate to see what kind of mucj there is undernesth tho

Ahh, Im using the Gunk stuff too. Works spot on and was on offer so was only about

Autoglym do something called "Engine and Machine cleaner" which is supposed to be quite good. P21s also do a thing called "Total Wash" (I think) which gets good reviews.

I use truckwash and curtain clean, a degreaser that also great on alloys.

Spray it on and then jetwash your engine.

Beedie, the fabia engine engine cover is held on by pressure, giving it a good pull should release it from the rubber grips.

go to Aldi, buy some all prupose cleaner, dilute 3 to 1, spray on, wipe off, rinse clean, then a light spray with a tyre cleaner, job done.

As a tip cover any electrics with nappy bags (they have tie handles) ;)

For me, I use tyre shine on all black bits, i.e battery box, airbox and cam cover. Metal polish on any metal, i.e the FMIC pipework and the fuel rails. Beyond that its just a case of elbow grease and a toothbrush for mucky cacked up bits of chassis and other areas. :)
