Vw Beetle 2 Litre Engine ??

Featured Replies

Never had any probs with economy or reliability with my old R-reg Ibiza Cupra 2.0 8v.

Back in the day, wasn't consensus that the 8v unit in the MKII Golf GTi was more useful than the 16v, albeit ultimately not quite so quick...?

Wasn't that a 1800cc

Never say 'never'. Just learned my lesson.

Yup Your right.. And I've read that list of problems u had mil, only one of them is an engine problem..

can i just say that guys? you are some big diesel freaks:rofl:

we have no problem with fabia's, no problem with petrols and no problem with the 2.0bv engine its mil's claims that his 2.0 fabia is quicker than anything on the roads and in the ye olde words of days gone by "i had him in the twisties" :)

Am I getting my Mk II ond Mk IIIs mixed up again...?

Anyhoo, my verdict of the 2.0 8v - perfectly adequate. If you're after burning up the streets, a Beetle probably isn't what you're after.

What are the alternatives? The 1.8 20vT is one, innit? More power but you've got lag which is less desirable for a pose-mobile. Don't know how it compares reliability-wise (never had any issues with my 1.8 20vT either) but it is a well agricultural sounding petrol. A friend thought it was a diesel when he first heard it...

No need for bad language. I can't believe you actually took the time to find and list all those posts Tom.

Best ask Mil and Thirdtimelucky - I'm baffled too! :D

Chris

Like I said in a previous post... I could keep up with him up with up to about 110mph nad then he would slowly start to pull away. This was up a hill btw. I was/could break much later then him and can out of the corners MUCH quicker them him.

Take my word for it - the 2.0 fabia is a nice car (IMO)

i would agree with someof the comments about having old technology, mine is lovely and quiet though, i havn't really owned the car long enough to comment on how reliable it is, the 2.0 engine is a good strong engine but i am disapointed with the overall performance. i get about 40mpg average from mine
