Citgo brakes "sticking"?

Featured Replies

Hi, I've recently bought a 2nd hand citigo (2014 plate, 20k miles, 1 previous owner, passed test in December). Over the past month or so, after the car has been stood overnight, or for a few hours, when trying to move off it feels like the rear wheels won't move, Reversing a little 'unsticks' them and all is fine except the brakes will squeal when used, intermittently. I've had a quick look through the forum and can't see anything related to this. I've had various people tell me it just needs 'running in' more or the disck brakes will do this on newish cars. Is it something I need to get a garage to look at though? Car doesn't seem topull to one side using brakes.

Highly unlikely to be Citigo only but something any braking system could replicate. If you cant strip and clean them yourself then yeah get them looked at, something isnt right for them to grip that much even for a few hours.

I had two Citigos bought from new and ran to around 100,000 miles each. Both had this issue from nearly new in damp weather.

My Citigo has done this since 2014. It does stop for a while when brakes cleaned. Just shuffle backwards and forwards with the clutch out and in. Releases with a bang. Ok again for a time.

Thanks folks, I'll get them looked at and continue to rock the car for now.

Also try to dry the rear brakes before you finish the journey.

How do I do this? Apart from just using them?

As you say "use them"

Simply apply the brakes with pressure as you approach your final destination in the last say 1/2 mile

Check as well that the handbrake cable is releasing properly. Mine used to freeze up in winter as it had water ingress/corosion and rear brakes would stick on.

For the last 100 metres of the journey I will gently apply the handbrake, when it is wet.

Also I have found that going forward first works better, after parking.

So if you park on a drive or in a parking bay, always back in.
