oil??????????

Featured Replies

I was reading through the posts on briskskoda and noticed that oil with a 505.01 rating should only be used in a skoda with a PD engine

My problem is that ive topped my fab vrs up with about half a litre of ''shell Helix Diesel ultra 5W-40 full synth'' which is 505.00

Am i worried about nothing or is it worth me having a full oil change

because i dont want to damage my baby?

Your are allowed upto 1 litre of non spec oil for emergency top up.

Thanks

I must look at the bottle when im buying oil more carefully

Whats the Shell Helix oil that belongs in a vrs?

Sorry if it sounds obvious but 505.01 rated stuff. ;) I reckon it will have the same name, if maybe just featuring some VW approved stamp. :)

I personally use Millers XFE-PD in mine which is VW approved to 505.01 an is only

Do you know the Millers stuff is only semi synthetic?

If it meets 505.01 why would that matter?

220 bhp?

220 bhp?

???

220 bhp?

Change the oil more frequently then.

Surely the spec is designed for standard engines? An oil is going to be subjected to greater forces and temperatures in a 220 bhp engine than a 130 bhp engine. A fully synth oil will have a stronger film strength and stay in grade for longer. I'm just suggesting that a fully synth oil is better for a highly tuned engine.:)

Change the oil more frequently then.

You might as well buy better oil in the first place - cheaper in the long run.

I see you point.

I just doubled check the bundle of info given to me by Skoda when I got my VRS and it states Shell Helix Ultra as the preferred oil choice. So this thread has confused me, you saying it's not suitable?!

If it meets the 505.01 spec and your engine is reasonably standard it will be fine. Devonutopia's engine is far from standard!

there is more than one type of Helix oil.

Can anyone tell me where in the Skoda manual bumph it states that 505.01 Shell Helix oil should be used and also where on oil bottle it is stated what it is ?

I asked dealer what to use and they just said Shell Helix would be fine - looked a bottle in shell garage and could not see any ref to it being 505.01 or anything else ?

Thanks

There is a specifit Shell Helix oil for the PD engines, it's quite hard to find though. I think one of the oils in the Castrol Edge range is suitable and is meant to be excelent.

Ive been reading the Skoda vRS manual and it states 505.00 oil should be used as does my dealer.

The Shelix Helix oil bottles are VW approved to 505.00.

Should I use this or 505.01 which I cant find anywhere or is not mentioned anywhere ?

confused !
